We do an Homage project with class @illustration_meca and a wonderful student mine did hers on the great Alan Lee - most of would know him as THE painter of all things Tolkien. She did a lovely job, but I had a little different theory about his mountain method that I wanted play with so I did (+Great Eagles). Basically doing 80% of the rendering with subtraction, add a touch of darks, and then little glints and blossoms of white gouache. It’s about a 4.5”x6.5” so if you went up a size or two you could have a lot of fun with this. One of the nice things about teaching remotely is doing more samples to illustrate techniques, rather than quicker live demos, where you show the technique, but you rarely get to also show the end overall effect. Hats off to Alan Lee, thanks for teaching me and inspiring us all. #alanlee #jrrtolkien #mistymountains #greateagles #theeaglesarecoming #watercolor #meca (at Waldoboro, Maine) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAN4RygDP2G/?igshid=o9m8zeq61cei
