So here we have it. My first ever blog post.
Hello!
In case you don’t know me - my name is Quina (it’s pronounced like ‘Keena’) and I’m a self-producing theatre artist based in Manchester. As I’m not too technically minded, I’ve decided not to have a website for the time being and to use this blog as a platform for sharing my art work.
However, as this is Tumblr and this is my first ever blog, I feel I should post some internet-worthy media. So, here we go. Here’s a picture of my pet cat Banjo sitting in a mixing bowl.
I like to make plays and stuff...
I’ll be keeping this blog up to date with info about my shows. I’ll also probably write silly things about my journey while making new shows, research, things I like... but I’ll try to keep it professional and keep the cat photos to a minimum.
I also like to write songs and have been learning the ukulele for a year or so, so sometimes I might share new songs. They might be original, they might be covers, they might be pop songs or they might be from one of my cabaret shows... maybe I’ll even do a Christmas song this year...
My new show Fan Girl
Fan Girl is a show about music and fandom that I created for this year’s Greater Manchester Fringe festival. It’s a solo show with live music, poetry, multimedia and storytelling.
I made it because I am a HUGE music fan myself (I particularly love live gigs and I used to semi-stalk an American ska band called Less Than Jake) and because once I started researching the topic of fandom it was fascinating. Turns out it goes back years... like back to the 1800s! So I did a load of research (I even learned some science) and I chatted to music fans from around the UK and eventually I made a show... and it went well. Really well. The shows sold out, so a new date was added - and this sold out too! The audience laughed in all the right places, and someone even called it a ‘top night out’.

Oooh and here’s a trailer. It’s low-tech and made by me, at home, with no funding... but I think it’s cool. My whole show has that kinda punk DIY feel anyways.
Over the next few months, hopefully you’ll see me sharing exciting updates as I book the show onto a small tour. Ideally, I’d love to be performing it at a couple of music festivals next year... so let’s see what the future holds!
