     Cathy could feel her eyes widen at the words, but just as quickly her eyebrows furrowed together in confusion before she turned away from him, shaking her head. Surely she had imagined it, because neither of them would ever dare put the relationship between Ryder and Delia at stake — which is what they would be doing if they decided to take this step of being together.

    She knew better than anyone else that if she and Ryder started something together, as great as it might grow to be, it would only be risky in terms of their daughter if they ended up breaking up. And knowing Cathy? They would break up.

        "We...we can't, Ryder. We have to keep Delia number 1. Number 2. Number 3."

                Because that was how it had been for the last four to five years; Cordelia had been all of Cathy's numbers.
