The De La Salle Magic

         UAAP Season 78 Women’s Volleyball tourney was the test of state of mind and stiffness in the same court wherein delight and gloom are tremendously present. As the ruling Ateneo De Manila University starts their drive to come to an end and strive for their 3-peat Title fight, and the De La Salle University starts their deprivation to re-claim the crown. After the Elimination Round of the Double Round Robin, Lady Eagles is at the uppermost with 12-2 and on their behind was the Lady Spikers with 11-3 win loss record and the both squad clutched the Twice-to-Beat Advantage. The Taft squad looks as if they are rattled and almost fell short to be in their 8th consecutive Finals appearance when the Morayta Squad shattered them in their do-or-die match-up at the SM Mall of Asia Arena last Sunday April 17 and drives them to a sudden death match on Wednesday April 20. But once again, the Green-and-White Beast actually proves that they can still do their grind and still lives on the game with a sweep and a bang ahead just before the Finals for the fifth time alongside the Blue-and-White Squad.

           The De La Salle Magic still lives on; maybe they just feel off the ground last two seasons against the same faces and same talents but they started to climb high of the topmost and prove again to have the same Taft Squad they used to be. The question was; what was the difference in the Season 76, Season 77 and Season 78? Why the #BMDC did not have enough things to be on their work? Is the Mika Reyes, Kim Dy, Cyd Demecillo and Kim Fajardo presence last season was not enough to beat the Katipunan Squad? The Ara Galang is finally the missing piece? Watching back on the 3-peat victory of this Taft Squad, it seems like they already mastered on how Volleyball Game should be. They know how to fight from beyond and know how to win and end the fight with that kind of heart. It was Melissa Gohing, Wensh Tiu, Michele Gumabao and Aby Maraño who ended the Season 75 in a 3-peat victory. But it was only the Senior Aby Maraño together with Mika Reyes, Ara Galang, Kim Fajardo and Cyd Demecillo who fought for their supposedly 4-peat title in the UAAP Season 76 but lacks of steadiness and gave the Katipunan Squad the first taste of Championship in the WVT in the entire UAAP History.Season 77 was horrible, Team Captain Ara Galang injured her knees and the whole Squad seems to collapse and ended as the bridesmaid of the Ateneo Lady Eagles. That season was really heart breaking; it was not the volleyball game that a fan would even like to witness neither you support the green-and-white ladies nor any team in the league. It was totally a nightmare season mainly to the De La Salle fans, it feels like you were implanted on the ground and cannot live on the grave.

        But this season was a different story to be read, it was like it is destined to be the last streaming and hurrah of each team especially to the ADMU and DLSU fans and supporters. The momentum seems to be held in reserve on the last match-up between two great players in their respective generations, respectively Alyssa Valdez and Ara Galang from both resilient squads. As of I am writing this article, Game 1 was already bragged by this De La Salle Squad. Game 2 is scheduled to be on Wednesday, if Ateneo pushes Game 3 it will be another bang to each and every fan of this great teams and will be the test of who is the fittest and the crown is fitted with whom? But if the La Salle finishes their journey it will be the testimony of how can a team put a fight and brought up themselves from beyond to be on top again. As a fan, I am personally astonished on how “The De La Salle Magic” works even how many brawls by this time on their way over and done with. Lady Spikers know how to fight, where they really belong and what they want to accomplish. Continue to perspire and inspire us and never stop even how much tussles you bump into.
