Katie, I have been stalking your tessa and scott tag, bc as a Canadian we need a certain number of hours spent stanning them during Olympic times. Reading your early tags makes me laugh so much because you tried to just be casually invested and then like half way through sochi gave up entirely and started gushing in the tags. If you had to pick one of their routines as your favourite whihc would it be?
This may be the best thing that has popped up in my ask box in literal YEARS. You are 100% right about my journey down this rabbit hole. I tried SO HARD to just be a casual fan but as we’re all seeing this year, they make it basically impossible to do that. ;)
As far as picking a favorite goes, that is SO HARD, but I’ll narrow it down to one actual competition performance and one gala performance.
This year’s Moulin Rouge is my favorite thing they’ve ever done. You can tell they’re so into it and believe in it and that it makes them so happy to skate every time they do it. I love how passionate it is but also how HARD it is (though they make it look so easy). Seeing the world fall in love with it makes me so happy because when they first announced it all those months ago, I knew it was going to special. And it is. I can’t imagine a better final Olympics routine for them.
But the performance I’ve come back to over and over again for 8 years is their gala performance from the 2010 Olympics. It’s so fun and joyful and they are the only two in the world who could have skated it. Mahler was when I first took notice of them, but the gala is when they became my forever faves.
