It wasn't common for the man to do things like this. As he roamed the city-- thankfully lacking guards do the need of their talents required elsewhere-- there were quite a few sights he missed. Zaphias was his home, after all. Even if he was not welcome here anymore. A sad thought but brushed aside thanks to the whole of him being able to come back. A cloak raised over his head, hiding hair to those who he did not want seeing them.
As such, he also kept his eyes low. The other's passing him taking him as a person who was just visiting. Whether they thought anything of the tall, soft-spoken man who pulled a small purse of gald and dropped it in front of the inn, asking for 'no change', well, they never said anything to him.
Much to the relief of Alexei, as was to be expected. After all, if they did not recognize him, then there wasn't much worry to being called out. However, his peace in the town which was quiet and a nice walk down an old memory was short-lived. The sounds of commotion caught to the man's ears as he turned to look in the direction of the gates.
A flood of monsters, perhaps he should refer to it more-so as a 'horde'. The group was obviously condensed and could have been much, much larger and much more on-coming as a 'flood' would have one to believe. Shifting back on his heels, he was torn between fighting them as the knights who were on duty ran forward or just turning and hiding while this all went over.
But, as he turned, seemingly to take the latter option, something caught his eye. Or perhaps, it should be said someone. A small girl caught her foot upon a loose cobblestone and with the way the knights were, they were too pre-occupied to protect her. His feet moved before his mind could register the thing happening--
His sword was in his hand in an instant, the fluttering of a hood and a flurry of white hair, the man stood.
Though the outfit he wore was no longer of the knights he still held himself in the same way. Same straight shoulders, sword pulled and blocking the attack of a creature, glancing over his shoulder to the girl-- "Go." It was hissed between teeth before the man moved forward.
It wasn't easy for him. But at the same time it wasn't extremely strenuous. His sword, rotating once before Alexei retook the one-handed sword stance carefully. A gaze watching the creatures movements, steely and cold but knowing.
That was when training came in and forward Alexei went. The other knights barely glancing at the figure who's cloak had fallen off, the button ripped. A golden tunic with black pants and a black turtle neck underneath the tunic.
Yet the man didn't take more than a second in responding to the situation now he was involved and fighting back. Barking orders, formations with ease of a trained veteran, the few knights began making success...
"On your tail!" It was a call to a knight on the other side of him as they twisted sharply to block, Alexei slitting the belly of another, the thing falling to the ground. All unknown on what was happening or even when someone would come to the knights 'rescue'.
