Posted @withregram • @greenpeace_canada Yesterday, a massive chunk of ice - LARGER THAN THE SIZE OF PARIS - broke off from the Arctic's largest ice shelf because of warmer temperatures in Greenland. This is satellite footage from Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) showing the portions of the glacier that had broken off. "We're observing increasing speed on this largest remaining ice shelf. If we see more warm summers like we observed the last two years, it will be contributing more to the accelerating global sea level rise." - Jason Box, professor of glaciology at the GEUS. The planet is burning and melting in real time, right in front of our eyes. As you watch your newsfeeds fill with fire and melting ice, remember that the oil companies knew - since the 1970s - about the negative impacts their activities would have on the climate. They could have shifted into a sustainable system, but chose this instead.
