Greg comes from a family of common farmers. He has a brother named Andy. When he was younger Greg always dreamed of becoming the Royal Songstrel to the Diamonds, but his parents always wanted him to take over the farm. Greg never did any of the chores his parents wanted him to so they decided that Andy would be the one to take over the farm while they sent Greg to Lawstrel School. While he was there he saw a poster for auditions to become the next Songstrel.

It was at his audition that he met his future wife, Rose Diamond. It was love at first sight. Rose eventually proposed to Greg, officially making him King. He does still visit his brother every once in a while. He has a son named Steven Quartz Diamond-Universe who will inherit the royal magic wand when he turns 13 years old.
