Trivia-time: Grangerville was the original name of Santa Maria, changed to Central City and then Santa Maria in the late 1800’s. Now ya know, but I’m not here to tell stories. This wine: OMG. Not sure where this wine’s headed… I’ve often said the BEST Syrahs are from acclaimed Pinot producers, and this is distinctive in its *pinot-esque* falling apart. Coupla little Greg Linn’s on the table tonight, an 06 Rim Rock Syrah feeling lackluster and tired, fun to drink but nothing compelling to write home about. Bland and uninteresting, boring to a tee, kinda not worth reporting… Drink’em if ya got’em….

An 08 Pinot blend from Santa Maria Valley in Santa Barbara wine country holding up fairly well… Showing all the signs of past-prime without showing any of the signs of GONE. Which you know is a good thing. A bit milky, but was transported 72 hours ago. No sediment on bottle, so there could be your answer.
Fairly closed in the nose, initially showing some lovely wet paper and green oak earthiness…
