Hüsker Dü “New Day Rising” 1985
Someday the surviving members and the estate of Grant Hart may get the rights their whole catalog and do a much needed remastering and reissue series. Until then this will have to dü!
I may have lived most of my life in the Pacific Northwest but deep down at my core I’m a 1980s Minnesota kid.
“Folk Lore” and “Celebrated Summer” are two of the finest songs Bob Mould ever composed.
The band was moving incredibly fast at this point. They had done a double album in 1984 and were already doing songs for this one live when that was released. When this one was released they were already doing songs for the next album. Which followed later that same year.
Listening to this (and The Replacements “Stink” EP) brings back memories wandering the streets and skyways of downtown Minneapolis while waiting for shows to start at First Ave or the 7th Street Entry (though that was a few years after those records). I like records that can give you particular time and city vibe. Good times.
