He still points the gun towards the hostages. Their movements are slow. Hands resting on their hips as they take in the situation in the restaurant. Ten hostages. Then they glare at Simon. “You gotta be fucking kidding me.” Simon tries to rob a restaurant. You just want teriyaki.

I’ve been rewatching Flashpoint. I watched it while it was airing and I’ve watched it in reruns but haven’t seen it in a few years. I knew that was a major event that I thought happened in a later season but nope! About 10 minutes into the episode I watched tonight in Season 2, I knew it was going to happen.

 I miss Flashpoint a lot for a show that ending a decade ago, so I guess this is where we’re at.Obscure Canadia is where it’s at sometimes, I guess I’m still writing fic about it

...ok you know what, I’m actually going to expand on this real quick.

And as always: Spoilers for the Flashpoint Season 4 episode “Day Game” and series finale

So long story short, team Sargent Greg Parker gets kidnapped by 2x SRU reject Gil Collins after Collins tried to be the hero of a call the SRU was already called on and messed it up, and Parker is forced to “talk him down” or in other words, get Gil Collins calm enough to change his mind and  not go ahead and kill Parker. Keep in mind that Gil Collins had Parker zip-lined tied on top of this big hockey rink the size of a NFL stadium which is like 253 ft (so I’m guessing they’re on top of the screen of the rink.)

And Parker almost got to him...he was so close. And then...Gil suddenly didn’t believe him and tipped Parker just enough to almost be on the edge.

One thing that is key here: Greg Parker is afraid of heights. He said it in season 1-2 (where we also found out that Ed is afraid of cats).

And as someone who has some fears like Parker, if you are faced with your fear with no way out, you go into fight or flight mode, you don’t think and you kind of become irritated because your body is telling you “get out, get away from this thing, it’s dangerous, GO GO GO” but you can’t.

He faced having a gun pointed at him multiple times, been kidnapped another time, and even been shot up multiple times and was literally bleeding out.All those time, he was calm.

But with Gil, he was faced with not only someone to talk down, but also on top of that he had to face his worst fear. Heights.

And I feel like that’s why Greg snapped at Gil. And why ultimately, he was so hard on himself at the end.

Because he let his fear take over.

Random thoughts about Flashpoint

The only legit time that I can think of Greg Parker losing his cool during a case is when he was facing his fear of heights.
