Greg Penner The New Chairman Of Walmart
Greg Penner The New Chairman Of Walmart
Despite pressure to name an independent chairman to the company’s board of directors, retail chain Walmart announced Greg Penner, founder Sam Walton’s grandson-in-law, will take the role, starting Friday.
Penner, who previously served as the board’s vice chairman, will begin his new job as chairman at the end of Friday’s shareholder meeting, the company said in a press release. Penner, 45, takes…

does greg penner agree with neil clark warren on LGBT issues?
Greg, are you comfortable with this rainbow or no?
So for a while there, Walmart director (and Rob Walton's son-in-law) Greg Penner was the only other person other than company CEO Neil Clark Warren on the eHarmony Board of Directors. Penner even stuck it out after seven of his fellow board members resigned, leaving only him and Warren. But someone else has joined the board now! eHarmony board meetings are now a party of three.
eHarmony, of course, is the online dating site that infamously barred same-sex couples until New Jersey's Civil Rights Division came along and was like, hmm, that's actually totally discriminatory. The company now begrudgingly offers a separate LGBT-specific site, but that doesn't prevent Warren from mouthing off about how gay marriage has "damaged" his company or how he thinks being gay is a "painful way for a lot of people to have to live."
We hope Penner doesn't share Warren's noxious views on LGBT folks, but given his eHarmony work and his other connections to anti-LGBT activity, we aren't optimistic...
walton house tour! stop #2
Stop #2 on the Walton family house tour: Carrie and Greg Penner’s palatial estate in exclusive Atherton, CA. The nearly 13,000-square-foot home, valued at a cool $20.6 million, sits on six acres. It has six bedrooms, four bathrooms, a five-car garage, and, as you can see, a pool and tennis court.
While the Penners lounge poolside, many Walmart associates struggle just to pay their rent and rely on state-funded healthcare for their children.

chillin' with tiger woods
In January 2012, Walmart director and Walton family member Greg Penner (in red shirt) was the “honorary co-captain” of the Stanford Cardinal football team when it went up against Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl. (Excuse us, the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.) His fellow honorary co-captain? None other than Tiger Woods. Wonder if Tiger has any advice for Walmart on how to bounce back from (alleged) scandal.
greg penner: ironman VIP
Walmart director and Walton family member Greg Penner is a triathlete. Here he is in the Ironman XC (Executive Challenge). Business Week reports: "For $9,000, or about 10 times the regular registration price, XC provides a way to VIP the Ironman...It’s the hardest major endurance race in the world and the ultimate status bauble for a certain set of high-earning, high-achieving, high-VO2-max CEOs."
Greg Penner opposed to universal pre-K? We thought he cared about education.
No preschool for you!
Remember that time that Walmart director and Walton family member Greg Penner contributed $250,000 to an effort opposing a universal pre-kindergarten program in California? The Walton family is supposedly all about education reform, but it looks like they might only care about that when it serves their interests in undercutting public education.
