Neil Young - Don't Let It Bring You Down
Déjà Vu was released on 11 March 1970. It was the second studio release for Crosby, Stills, and Nash, and the first to include Neil Young (the 24-year-old Young appears on only half of the tracks with Nash stating that Young "generally recorded his tracks alone in Los Angeles then brought them back to the recording studio to put our voices on, then took it away to mix it”).
The album took an unusually long time to record, with band members arguing over which songs to include, which versions of songs, and which mix. Neil Young described Crosby, Stills, and Nash as “in the studio nitpicking,” which negatively effected the final album.
21-year-old drummer Dallas Taylor and maybe (his birthdate is disputed) 16-year-old bassist Greg Reeves also receive credit on the front sleeve. Reeves was fired from the band a month after the album’s release, and Taylor a month after Reeves.
Déjà Vu was a hit before it was released, however, with more than $2 million worth of pre-orders. It sold 500,000 copies in its first 2 weeks after release, and topped the US Billboard chart for 1 week (it stayed on the charts for 88 weeks). It has sold more than 14 million copies worldwide.
