Mitsubishi will once again compete in the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in a wild electric prototype car. The Mitsubishi MiEV Evolution III, which is an update to last year’s car, will enter the 12.42-mile hill climb that finishes at 14,110 feet above sea level on June 29.

This year, Mitsubishi will once again enlist drivers Hiroshi Masuoka and Greg Tracy to pilot the MiEV Evolution III at Pikes Peak. Last year, Masuoka earned a second-place finish in the hill climb’s electric vehicle class, while Tracy finished in third place.

The Mitsubishi Lancer is a compact car produced by the Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors since 1973. It has been known as the Colt Lancer, Dodge/Plymouth Colt, Chrysler Valiant Lancer, Chrysler Lancer, Eagle Summit, Hindustan Lancer, Soueast Lioncel, and Mitsubishi Mirage in various countries at different times, and has been sold as the Mitsubishi Galant Fortis in Japan since 2007.

It has also been sold as Mitsubishi Lancer Fortis in Taiwan with a different facelift than the Galant Fortis. In Japan, it was sold at a specific retail chain called Car Plaza.

Using multiple electric motors to provide all-wheel-drive performance is a clear focus for Mitsubishi. In addition to using such layouts for its Pikes Peak race cars, the Japanese company has shown several concepts using a similar powertrain arrangement.

The Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV, for instance, which debuted both at last year’s Tokyo auto show as a crossover and as a virtual race car in the Gran Turismo 6 video game, uses both electric motors and a gasoline engine to create a through-the-road hybrid all-wheel-drive system.

Community Partnership Award

On Wednesday night (12-Dec-2012) I was honored to receive a Community Partnership Award from the City of Madison's Transit and Parking Commission for my work on making Madison Metro's transit data available via Mobile UW.  This has helped increase ridership not only for the UW community but also the entire city of Madison.  Metro also credits this work for helping them win the 2012 APTA Award for the Best Transit System of its size in North America.

The success of Mobile UW in this space wouldn't have been possible without the great work of my fellow recipient and friend Greg Tracy for his SMSMyBus real time data service.
