🖼️ Art by @dane_hallett_art & H.R.Giger @alienanthology @marvel Recently I asked Brad from @aliensgatewaystation if there other instances of plagiarism in Alien in the past? Or "homages" I said obviously in Covenant Dane and Matt were asked to copy Giger's work. Brad said "I wouldn’t say they copied Giger’s work. More like they replicated Giger’s style to create new, original work. Other artists who’ve worked in the Alien franchise, working on comics or games etc., are essentially replicating Giger’s asthetics to some extent whenever they draw an Alien (big chap style) or Juggernaut/Derelict or whatever, but they’re still making something original and even adding a bit of their own aesthetics/style to it. Dane and Matt just took it a step further, staying a little truer to Giger’s style. Giger himself has even done this. For example, Giger’s isle of the dead; That was a piece heavily inspired by another artist’s work by the same name. You see a lot of similarities between Giger’s and the original, but Giger still made something new and unique without copying the previous version line for line. That’s being inspired rather than a blatant rip-off or plagiarism. And many artists have recreated the Isle of the Dead piece in their own way, not just Giger. What Land did, was not the same as pulling inspiration, or recreating an aesthetic by another artist. It was literally Tristan’s work manipulated and combined with the work of others to make it appear as something new/original. That’s not ok. It’s not his work; it’s dishonest and unethical to do what he did. If Land had used Tristan's work as a reference, that would have been ok imo. “50 Tales for 50 Years: A Celebration of Barbara Gordon” - 1999: On Wings:

Ever since their first kiss in Batman Family issue 1 from 1975, Barbara Gordon and Dick Grayson have had a strong connection and at times a flirtatious one. Their romantic relationship is examined in Chuck Dixon’s Birds of Prey (Vol 1) 8 from June 1998, illustrated by Greg Land, Drew Geraci, Gloria Vasquez and Albert Guzman. In “On Wings”, when Black Canary tries to call Oracle, an unknown man to Dinah (Nightwing aka Dick Grayson) picks up and says Babs is busy at the moment. The book then flashes to earlier in the day where Dick and Barbara meet up for a “non date” together to have some downtime. Grayson took Babs to the circus, which starts up a conversation about tackling their demons, from Dick losing his parents while part of the Flying Graysons to Barbara being shot by The Joker and losing her ability to walk. Barbara tells Dick she has moved on for the better and developed her own sense of self not connected to a Bat-guide. Dick still is curious the one thing Babs misses the most that she can’t do anymore, with her answer being grappling from rooftop to rooftop as if you’re flying. Grayson then takes Babs into the big top of the circus and do trapeze acts, building Barbara’s confidence in her physical capabilities which ends with a tender embrace. Before Barbara leaves, Dick asks if they can start dating, but Babs says it wouldn’t be a good idea for many reasons (their past and the present). The issue ends with Oracle thanking Nightwing for watching her line while she rested and Dick saying he would do anything for her. ✌🏼️💜💛📖🎨🎉

“50 Tales for 50 Years: A Celebration of Barbara Gordon” - 1999: Long Time Gone:

After writer Chuck Dixon introduced Oracle (Barbara Gordon) and Black Canary (Dinah Lance) as the team Birds of Prey in 1995, they received their own DC Comics publication released January 1999 (cover date), illustrated by Greg Land (cover presented by Land and Brian Stelfreeze). After Oracle sends Black Canary a new laptop computer so they can communicate, Lance is sent on a mission to Rheelsia to follow a man named Pamerjanian. In the process, while Black Canary meets a man named Jason Bard, who has had a past relationship with Barbara, Lance is captured by Pamerjanian’s men and put into slavery on his plantation, causing Oracle to panic since their way of communication is now cut off. With the help of Nightwing (Dick Grayson) in Bludhaven, Oracle is able to track down the plantation as Black Canary takes on Pamerjanian’s martial arts leader Hellhound aiding in her escape. As Oracle and Black Canary continue their crusades together, Barbara’s relationship with Grayson takes on a new life in the ‘Birds of Prey’ books, which we will discuss next in our retrospect. ✌🏼️💛💜📖🎨🎉
