When To Run, Where To Hide

Who else but Athletics could make their return in a blaze of glory with naught but a two song EP? With mixing by Gregory Dunn (Moving Mountains) When To Run, Where To Hide contains the familiar nuance and technical virtuoso of records past which made them a staple in post rock circles, all while successfully fleshing out disparate aspects of their talents. In earnest, the EP plays like an indispensable moment of respite. The gradual crescendo lays the instrumental skeleton through which cavernous soundscapes are created. And the tempo progresses suddenly to a moment of aural climax akin to the unrestrained winds of a hurricane that was but a breeze moments before, uprooting familiar landscapes in favor of something that will elicit emotion. It is in this pedal induced cacophony of distortion, reverb, and delay that sonic clarity is obtained and one learns exactly when to run and where to hide.
