"WE ALL GREW UP IN A WOMAN'S BODY"
by Gregos
In 1908 15,000 women marched through New York City, demanding shorter hours, better pay, and the right to vote. The following year the United States witnessed its first National Women's Day and in 1911 the first International Women's Day rallies were held. When the March, 2014 celebration rolled around, with its theme of "Equality for Women Is Progress for All," the city of Paris decided to commemorate the event with a new work of art and asked Paris artist Gregos to create this installation on the side of Halle des Blancs Manteaux. Born in the northern suburbs of Paris, the self-taught artist began experimenting with sculpting and molding techniques after spending a two years in Athens, and now is probably the most visible artist in Paris with well over 1,000 replicas of his face around the city—Gregos estimates 300 in this piece alone—and many more around the world. @gregosart/
