does anyone else in the early internet user generation like broadly people born 1990-2000 have a sudden realization every once in a while that there are tons of skills we learned in early internet development that are useless now or in the very near future because we’re essentially pioneers of new tech, almost like the generation first introduced to electricity?
like I grew up in what I’m now affectionately calling “disc world” when the compact disc was groundbreaking tech, moving away from vhs and cassettes to everything having the same flat shiny storage device. I wasn’t old enough to need to use a floppy disc but I remember my dads stack in his office, and playing computer games by sticking the game disc into the external disc drive while the dial up blue line crept across the screen. I burned CDs to listen to my music in my car, cause I don’t like radio near me and there was no aux cord option (new cars did but even my parents didn’t have a car that new) hell I had one (1) whole textbook in high school that had a digital option and guess how we loaded it into the computer
and my sister is only 5 years younger and she doesn’t even remember the flash drive, there’s always been a cloud or online drive and I’m sitting here forgetting we no longer have shitty time warner saying What If You Can’t Connect To The Internet?? Where’s Your External Save Point??? what do you mean a base model phone has more than 8GB????
idk it just hit me again with yahoo answers being shut down next week and I do think that the rapid rate of progress has been a net positive but I also feel like I have an educational parallel to someone that invested all their money in this totally game changing new thing called Betamax
One last final goodbye...a final glimpse out onto the vivid sea...
