Listen Up, ppl who love long dogs in Florida
So I'm rescuer in Wales, my family have adopted and fostered a lot of sighthounds, and we've had the absolute pleasure of fostering greyhounds too, both of which were ex racers. So I want to try and convince as many people as I can to adopt greyhounds. Why?
Florida has voted it completely ban greyhound racing by 2020
This means that a lot of greyhounds will need rehoming. Ethics of greyhound racing aside, we as a global community of sighthound rescuers desperately need lots of people ready to take a greyhound!!
Why should I adopt a greyhound?
Glad you asked. Greyhounds are quiet gentle souls who really don't ask too much of you. Even ex-racers are mostly docile and preffer sleeping than running around. Due to the nature of the breed they'll need quick bursts of exercise and then they'll just sleep for the rest of the day. They're typically great with families and older people due to being calmer and quieter dogs, but do be mindful that they can be a bit nervous.
But aren't ex-racers difficult?
In my experience? Not really! We had two, one who was fresh out of racing and if anything, was the quietest dog we had, and an old lady who went into breeding after racing. She was a little more nervous than our other foster but with enough patience and love she warmed up to us and our pack.
Sighthounds are generally beautiful and gentle dogs and if you can adopt one in you live in florida, deffinately go for it!!
