One Way Heroics is a turn-based roguelike RPG with grid-based movement. What sets this game apart from others is that it's also part autoscroller: if you don't keep up the pace and fall too far behind, you will die. This game also has directional damage; if you aren't facing an attack, you will take more damage from it.
I have a whole Tumblr blog for this one! @zenura-weave
If you ever see that green haired girl with the shoulder-length hair I draw a lot, she's from this game.
One Way Heroics Plus adds to the base game in considerable ways; not only with new content but also many quality-of-life improvements. It is a DLC to the game on Steam and bundled automatically with the Nintendo Switch version. I recommend going immediately to Plus and not bothering with vanilla because of this.
The Switch version does not have any online features (Daily worlds, player ghosts) and has pretty borders that change depending on what's happening in-game. It is also at a higher price point and goes on sale less frequently. If you mainly play in handheld/have a Switch Lite I would not recommend this version due to how small text is.
Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics is a spinoff created by Spike Chunsoft. There's new classes, a different set of allies, many new items, and more. There's even crossover content with Shiren the Wanderer and Danganronpa. (Fun fact, that game is partially responsible for getting me into the latter). This game is a bit divisive due to it's capped framerate and introduction of random traps (a Mystery Dungeon staple). As someone with hundreds of hours in both, I have a tough time saying one is strictly better than the other.
If you enjoy Mystery Dungeon games, I highly recommend checking this series out. It is frequently on sale for less than $10 on Steam. Mystery Chronicle goes on sale for even cheaper on Steam (as low as $0.99!) and has more content, so if you can deal with its shortcomings I would recommend that.
Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics is also available on Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita, but that version has a higher price point, doesn't go on sale, and isn't on par with the Steam version update wise.
One Way Heroics 2 has been in development since around 2016 but information is only in Japanese as of making this post. This game makes substantial gameplay changes; main one being the introduction of deckbuilding elements. Information of this game can be found on the dev's website here.
Outside of videogames, there is also the One Way Heroics TRPG and a series of books to go alongside it. They are available as digital Kindle books on Amazon and formerly released physically. The TRPG has a Tumblr blog @katamichitrpg-blog but it has been inactive for many years now.
