what's with that one serial killer trope where someone tries to use themselves as bait for the killer and the killer is too ~erudite and worldly~ to fall for it and literally doesn't go after them out of spite

this is relevant bc i want it to be known that the Gridelgrin is in no sense erudite or worldly and absolutely has fallen for incredibly obvious "im a gross ultramarine look at all these things i have i sure hope some self-appointed guardian of the chromaspectrum doesn't murder me while i am enjoying my independence and wealth" style traps many, many times

corollary: the gridelgrin doesn't actually have that many confirmed kills, at least in modern times bc they are basically the worst most pompous and least effective serial killer ever, in the context of a world where the only other (in)famous serial killer tried to kill three nigh-omnipotent witches at the same time in the middle of their own battle with each other and got himself not only vaporised but his soul blasted into fragments

but then i also believe in serial killers who pretend to be sympathetic and conflicted getting trampled on by people who can see straight through their bullshit

literally all i have done with gridelgrin is spook brownbloods by asking them if they've been good or not

i feel like this is p accurate to my vision of their character given that they are basically ghosty santa that gave naughty children stabbings and good children (here defined by the gridelgrin as amaranthines and above) the assorted viscera of the naughty children

the main issue with catching the Gridelgrin is the fact that whenever they get a hole in their suit big enough to slip swarmlights through during the chase they just deconstitute themselves and fly away screaming "MY BUGS, MY BUGS"
