Prompt 23 - Fidelius Charm
@wolfstarmicrofic October 23, word count 256
Remus stared at the book before him, the words dancing about on the pages as tears dripped freely from his eyes. He had the words memorised by now anyway, so he didn’t need to be able to see to read them.
‘‘The Fidelius Charm’
This immensely complex spell, when cast correctly, will hide a secret within a living soul. Most commonly used when a dwelling’s location must be concealed. The secret is placed within a ‘Secret Keeper’ protecting the property. It will become entirely impossible to find unless the Secret Keeper reveals the secret. Only the secret keeper is able to tell other individuals the secret, and it must be done voluntarily. Magical coercion such as Veritaserum, Legilimency, or forms of torture would not work. Those who have been told the secret can not repeat it themselves, including more in the secret. Only the primary Secret Keeper is capable of that.
One must be very careful with who they choose as their Secret Keeper. Choosing the wrong person could have detrimental consequences.’
Sirius had been Lily and James’s Secret Keeper, and now they were gone.
Remus shoved the book away, the words burned into his retinas. How could Sirius do that to James? To Lily? To Harry? To Peter and all those muggles? To him? How could Sirius have done that to him? Remus picked up the bottle of firewhisky and drank deeply. His world was gone, and all that was left were ashes and himself. The war might be over, but Remus had lost everything.
