✗ SNAPSHOT ┅
A con woman and a swindler, Grifter Cricket has long lived a double life. Born into a family of thieves, trickery was always in her blood. With the power to imbue inanimate objects with almost magical properties, such as luck, protection, or health, she utilizes the talismans she creates for her own advantage. By day, she plays the part of a mystic, granting spiritual guidance to her clients. At night, however, she sheds her other-worldly persona, heads to Million's Square, and gambles into the night, a good luck talisman tucked in her pocket making it impossible to lose.
✗ BIOGRAPHY┅
As a child, you never truly wanted for anything, but nothing you had was your own. Your earliest memories were of your father, laughing as he emptied his pockets of that day's haul. It was a glorious game to him, to your mother, to you. If they ever taught you anything, it was the rush of triumph that filled you when you got away with taking what was not yours. Together, the three of you roamed from town to town, staying only long enough to grab all that your greedy hands could carry before moving on once more. It was an exciting life, but as you aged into adulthood, you became bored with a life. The small-scale wasn't enough for you. you needed something bigger, and that meant staying in one place, putting down enough roots to build yourself from the ground up. You bade goodbye to your parents, and made your own way to the city.
For a while, you drifted there, too. You weren't used to a life of staticity, nor to making plans when all you had been taught was rash impulsiveness and instant gratification. But then again, you'd always been lucky. When your mark appeared, and you learned what you were truly capable of, your first reaction was to laugh in glee. Others may have been afraid of what the symbol meant, but not you. It would work out. It always did, and your particular talents were just what you needed, forming the inspiration for the new life you were looking to create for yourself. You leaned into the life of a mystic, painting yourself as a spiritual guide. It was easier than it seemed. For the most part, people were simple. You could usually get the measure out of them of one conversation. You dropped a few vague predictions here and there, and soon, they were hailing you as a psychic. A few of your talismans were enough to seal your legitimacy, even as you laughed at the believers behind their back.
It still wasn't enough for you, though. Your little operation was lucrative, but small. It would never make you a fortune, and didn't give you the same rush that stealing did. You thought for hours about what you could do with yourself, how else you could prosper. When the answer hit, you felt a little stupid for never having thought about it before. You changed your outfit, shrugging off your loose-fitting clothing and golden bangles in favour of sleek suits and diamond earrings, and headed straight for the casino. With your little lucky charms in your pocket, how could you ever lose? This was the high you had been looking for, the thrill of winning never growing tired. You've been called a cheat, but nobody can prove it. They have no choice but to let you rake in your earnings, returning home with a wallet far fatter than the one you came with, ready to start the cycle of your double life once more.
✗ SOCIAL NETWORK┅
Carbon Caiman: You met on Million's Square, where you were hustling and he was drowning his sorrows. It isn't often you feel sorry for someone who has lost everything, but that's usually because you're the one who took it from them. He was different, though, and against your better instincts, you couldn't help but feel sympathetic. You've been making gifts of your talismans to him, encouraging him to join you in the casino to win alongside you. he could use some luck, and for the first time in your life, you're happy to provide it for free.
Cipher Mole: When the two of you get together, chaos follows - but then, that is why you enjoy her company so much. The two of you are thick as thieves. Your double act extends beyond your friendship, though. She knows that at night, you keep questionable company, but where money changes hands so freely, secrets can often be spilled. You keep your ear to the ground for her, helping her pinpoint where to focus her energies when it comes to hacking. In return, she keeps you informed on the lives of your clients, feeding into your faux-mystic act. It's all fun and games, the trouble you two cause, but neither of you have thought about what will happen if it all goes wrong.
Tasmanian Devil: You're talented at pulling the wool over people's eyes, but Tasmanian Devil sees right through your act. Technically, you're on the same side, but they don't trust you and you know it. They seem determined to keep their hawk-eyes on you, keeping you on a leash that you rebel against. They clearly don't expect much from you, and perhaps they're right to be cautious, but the tighter they hold on to you, the more you strain against the limits they impose. You were not made to sit under other's thumbs, but with them refusing to get off your back, that's exactly where you've found yourself.
