I've Fallen Out of Love with TWD
After 7 1/2 years of being in love with TWD, re watches, analysis, discussion, fanfiction etc. it just isn't doing it for me anymore. I struggled to stay with the show through season 7 and it sure wasn't easy. I managed to hang on for season 8. For the reckoning. But it never happened. Instead Carl is dead, Richonne is down and Grimes 2.0 annihilated. It hurts. The story no longer makes any sense to me and I can no longer relate. I can't bring myself to care how All Out War will end at this point.
Still adore Richonne so i'll catch clips on YouTube but no longer a fan of the show.
Anyone have another show they can recommend for binging?
Heartbroken
I am legit sad about Carl. This was not a good idea at all. How are Rick and Michonne gonna recover from this? This is not ok.
When they make it home Carl will be the only one to know why his dad got his mom the cat
Happy 3 year Anniversary Richonne “Richonne will always be canon” MichonneGrimes and RickGrimes The Grimes
“How It’s Gotta Be.” - I can’t stop wondering Why? Why Carl?
One of the best things about The Walking Dead is that you can simultaneously be a fan of the comics and the show. The reason for this is Robert Kirkman’s STORY. Whether you are a #1 Fan or a Casual Viewer, whether you buy the comics and/or tune in for the horror, the action and/or the drama, you have to admit that it’s Robert Kirkman’s STORY that keeps you coming back for more.
Moving forward without Carl completely changes the STORY that I’ve been watching unfold for 8 years. The STORY that begins with the hero, Rick Grimes waking up from a coma in a Walker Apocalypse who will stop at nothing to find and protect his son, Carl. This is the STORY that was told from the very beginning and reinforced throughout the series.....until now. This is the STORY that I fell in love with. Rick Grimes, fearless protector of his loved ones......AT ALL COSTS. “Mercy for the lost. VENGEANCE for the plunderers.” Remember?
With Carl’s death the writers rendered all of Rick’s sacrifices, suffering, growth, pain and hope meaningless. To Rick Grimes, protecting Carl and keeping him alive is “all that matters.” He said as much to Daryl after killing the Claimers. Carl is Rick’s fuel.
So what happened to make TPTB decide to veer so drastically away from the STORY????? Why was Carl’s character changed from 7x16 gun fight starting, kill ‘em all, let’s finish this Carl to out of nowhere, proclaiming a need for mercy for the Saviors Carl, in the next episode? A complete 180 with no explanation? Why? Could it have anything to do with Robert Kirkman’s lawsuit against AMC? Consider the following....
1) It was never the plan for Carl to die. This decision came out of nowhere.
Last year, after Chandler Riggs’ 7 year contract with TWD ran out he was assured by AMC that they wanted him on the show for the next 3 years. But in June 2017, 2 weeks before his 18th birthday and around the time of the filming of episode 8x06 Chandler Riggs learned that Carl was gonna die in episode 8x08. Why the change? What prompted the change of mind to kill Carl?
2) If the decision had anything to do with Chandler Riggs in the role of Carl Grimes (i.e. wrong age, going to college, etc.), the role could have been re-cast but TPTB didn’t want that, they wanted the character of Carl Grimes gone. They wanted to erase Carl from the show, not Chandler, Carl. But why?
3) Why does Michonne tell Carl in episode 8x01 “This is your show. You’ll see.”? If Carl is going to die and this outcome is vastly different than in the comics then why did TPTB go out of their way to recycle this line directly FROM the comics?? How is this line still relevant? Especially when Carl doesn’t even stay in ASZ to protect the community. Instead, he’s out in the forest helping Siddiq and getting bit! Could this line have been shade? Maybe directed at Robert Kirkman? “This is your show.”????
4) What the hell is this about?
Is this more shade? Favorite moment was when Carl was about to get bit?!
Even Chandler Riggs had to call this out....
5) Robert Kirkman is suing AMC. Robert Kirkman still owns the source material for the Walking Dead. Robert Kirkman created Carl in his father’s image. Robert Kirkman’s favorite Walking Dead character is Carl. Robert Kirkman has said nothing about the show killing Carl. Killing Carl puts significant light between the STORY on the Walking Dead show and Robert Kirkman’s creation. Could this somehow boost AMC’s legal position in Robert Kirkman’s law suit?
I obviously don’t know what led to the decision to kill Carl Grimes but a sudden, major story resetting, Robert Kirkman’s influence diminishing, writing decision could possibly be connected to “ongoing litigation.” Just sayin.
R.I.P. Carl Grimes. You and Grimes2.0 deserved so much better.
