Like first up, Toshiro is a grown ass man who very much could free his family's slaves if he wanted to and he choses not to. If his family objects to him freeing their slaves then its the moral objective of any decent person to kill them. By choosing not to free fuckers he is indeed voluntarily a slave owner. Because he's choosing to keep them and choosing to profit of their free labor.
So yes, it is his fault that he is a slave owner because he's fully capable of choosing not to be a slave owner and chooses to remain one. Him not freeing his slaves because he's a spineless wimp does not garner empathy from anyone who's a half decent person, it garners ire.
Oh does Toshiro have big feelings of being isolated and unable to talk to his father's slaves because of the nature of their relationship? Tough titty. He literally has the power to change the relationship with between himself and the people that his family owns and he chooses not to fucking do so. So whatever emotional suffering it causes him is fucking deserved. He's a grown ass man and not a child, fuckers need to stop infantilizing and coddling him just cause he's fantasy Japanese.
He could literally just free them and for the ones who want to stay they could enter a new more fair work contract where the ladies got paid for their labor and if they wanted to could quit at will. Which would go a long way for Toshiro to be able to have better relationships with them if they aren't his property and don't have to kiss his ass on default.

And anyone who wants to decry that it's unrealistic based on the time period and culture is a stupid pile of festering dog vomit. It's a fucking fantasy, there's plenty of shit about Dungeon Meshi that ain't realistic. Furthermore in every time period and culture where there's people who are enslaved there's abolitionists just as much as there's slaves who revolt against their masters and the system.
And literally the only fuckers who actually empathize with slave owners in fiction and real life, cause yall use the same fucking arguments, are racist bigoted bastards who do not take slavery seriously. And thus the opinions of said bastards are not valid.
