Fuck the carnival. It’s a misnomer mantra he can’t get out of his god damn head, stomping around the festivities as an angry, sober animal. There is no way he’ll be able to focus on burnt funnel cake or broken down carousel rides when witches are on the prowl. The joke of the article is dead and Jack is sure one of his enemies is bound to expose themselves tonight.
The rest of the Hunters have scattered, to enjoy themselves and ignore their duties, Jack’s sure. He will not be so weak. He remains vigilant and clear headed, his eyes peeled as he lurks beside a food booth. Indeed, he is munching on a burnt piece of funnel cake but it doesn’t distract him from the willowy blonde as she passes by. There’s something about her, as if he’s seen her face before, and as if the universe hears his call, she stumbles and falls directly on the asphalt. It’s every shade out of character when he approaches, slow and careful even in his speech.
“You alright there?” He crouches where she’s likely to get hit, trying for a friendly smile and likely falling short. “Big spill you took there.”
of all the things at the festival, the auction had piqued marina’s interest most. after all these years, it was both strange and exciting that they’d finally decided to put up some artifacts allegedly belonging to the original salem coven in addition to the usual trinkets. she’d settled on a plan the moment she’d seen the sign: head into the auction, identify pieces belong to her grimoire’s original owner, and acquire them. no matter what they were, they’d probably give her a bit more insight into the kind of person she’d been, the kind of magic she’d done.
and so she finds herself walking through rows of tables and shelves, the lots for the auction later that evening on display for interested patrons’ perusal. a blue-bound book next to a tray of crystals catches her eye and she reaches to pick it up, thumbing through the pages as she scans the penmanship. marina’s so focused on the contents of the book that her surroundings begin to slip away a little, until another body shifts into her peripheral vision and collides with hers. “oh — i’m so sorry, i was completely in your way.” she offers the man an apologetic smile, moving to tuck herself against the nearest shelf more closely.

Though the afternoon got off to a rough start, with tension high over alcoholic drinks in the picture-perfect setting of Luce’s home, progress had been made by the end of the 3-hour long conference. With the help of Asteria’s gift of belated cupcakes and Cole’s suggestion of a impromptu magic show, the focus shifted from an argument between Ariadne and Carter about who was to blame for the article.
Many of the witches got the chance to display their abilities, or at least speak out about them - but some held back. It was evident that for the most part, the group as a whole had much to learn about their powers, and were all in a state of disarray. Wynter and Aida agreed to do some digging into Joseph Bishop’s past in hopes of finding more information to validate the possibility of witch hunters. Carter brought up the possibility of a seance to get information from the dead, but the idea seemed to divide the girls.
Maia’s confessions, first about a mysterious note and then about the ability of her black magic spell, startled the other witches, and brought on a discussion about their safety in numbers. In general, they agreed to work together in secret, apart from Genevieve Ceoi. Belen also offered a sort of soothing presence, along with Clementine, Asteria, and Cole’s jokes.
During the discussion, Zelenia and Luce showed great leadership skills, and managed to keep things peaceful with an assist from Aida. The display of powers, particularly from Clementine and Harley, seemed to encourage the witches that they have defenses in place in the worst case scenario.
With things finally going well, the girls decide to adorn for the day, pleased that though the mystery of who wrote the article was not confirmed, they had some sort of a plan in place. They would practice, learn, dig, and prepare for a future seance. As they began to trickle out of the beautiful home, a startling sign occurred - dead birds flying to the ground when Carter and Asteria touched.
Tomorrow, some of the witches would meet again, and hopefully make even more progress - without the turbulence in the beginning.

There had been no need to cajole Lucrezia into entering the fashion show, she was shamelessly ready. Combining aesthetics and attention was about the only AA meeting she would ever think to attend. Her excitement had dipped the longer she stared at the racks of clothing. "Bless my heart- is that who I think it is?" She looked around the rack with wide eyes. "Mr. Librarian~"

He hadn't planned on attending the fashion show, let alone walking in it as a participant. But he'd made the mistake of walking past with some of his friends, who'd then done him the favor of shoving him in the direction of the organizers. Ten minutes and a quick wardrobe change later, he found himself unceremoniously shoved into one of the chairs backstage, a makeup artist dusting powder across his face.
At the sound of a familiar voice he groaned internally, bringing up a hand to shield his face jokingly. "Alas, it is me. Caught far, far from my comfort zone." Roman brings his hand down, smiling as he meets the brunette's eyes with a smile. "I should've known a pretty lady like yourself would be right at home here."

Luce's face was still quite open, a pleased tilt to her as she moves closer to the man. He was softer than she typically dealt but more handsome than Salem typically saw- at least in the years since she'd been there. "It's very much my wheelhouse, yes." It was neither vain nor shameful when she spoke. Indeed, Lucrezia had her hair perfectly styled into curls she was rarely seen in, a dark lip and sharp eye aided to bring out fashion of whatever she wore. "How'd you end up in this show with so much discomfort?"

Roman runs a hand through his hair. "Damn, you can tell?" He laughs, a little bashful. He'd tried to just be game about it, knowing that it didn't matter much in the grand scheme of things to just go along with his friends' raucous suggestions and make them happy. "A bunch of my friends pushed me into this." His tone is wry but light, even as the makeup artist frowns at him for moving around so much. Hopping off the chair once she'd stepped away, Roman moves over to stand by Lucrezia. "Be honest: do I look stupid?"

Her nod is slightly wide eyed, as if it is too obvious to miss. "Not exactly playing it off. But-" she touches his forearm, friendly. "you've still got time to play it off." Luce continues to stand close as she listens, her eyes intent on his. It was only a little strange for her to see a man so uncomfortable in the makeup chair. "Stay still," she chides him for the artist. "Or you'll look even more a fool than you feel." When he's finished, Luce is careful to observe him. There's always an intensity in her eyes with this - making a bold claim on another's appearance.
"You look very clean. Very handsome," and she punctuates with a wink.
with the witchcraft festival in full swing, the hunters are on the prowl - this is their best chance to identify the witches and create a game plan. however, when surrounded by average civilians pretending to be the very thing you are hunting for, how are you to discover your prey? you split up, and start to mingle... and find yourself in some interesting predicaments with some odd women along the way.
meanwhile, the grimoires girls are trying to enjoy their one weekend of freedom - genevieve has told them to forget they are different from the world, and just have fun. this may be your one chance to truly be yourself without fear.
or is it?

He'd been told to supervise a group of boys from his senior class of history students at the fair — not exactly how he'd imagined spending his weekend, but for free snacks and a reason to be at the fair alone without a date, it was passable. Looking over at the small cluster of stalls manned by students from the local schools, he spotted a familiar blonde. Walking over, he patted her on the shoulder gently with a smile. "Hey — Asteria, good to see you here too!" With one hand, Roman held up the cup of mini churros he was munching on. "You want some? They're a little burnt, but still good."

Being able to face paint and make little crafts with her art students had been a huge pick me up, she loved spending time with her kiddos outside of school, even if the young ones tended to be hard to wrangle up. They seemingly listened to her, respected her, and she enjoyed seeing their creative sparkle and shine. When she felt a hand on her shoulder, her eyes widened before she spun around, small little stars painted along the side of her face, silver glitter accenting the design, she beamed a smile at the sight of roman, "My goodness, it's great to see you here as well!" She greeted, pulling him into a hug in her typical Asteria fashion, plucking a churro from the outstretched hand, "You have having any fun?!"

His eyes widened a little as he took in the glitter studded across her cheeks, breaking out into a small laugh. She was definitely a great fit with her younger students, easily matching their energy and excitement. "Yeah, it's pretty cool, how much everyone's willing to put into the fair." Roman had only been in Salem around a month, and he hadn't really expected a spectacle of this sort. "Your face looks incredible," he nods in approval, and then gesturing at his own comparably blank face. "D'you think you could do some for me?"
you wake up on the morning of the 8th, and when you leave your home; salem has been transformed. for weeks now you’ve lived in a universe unlike reality, where magic and danger lurk at every corner, and the spectacular has become predictable. now, the rest of salem has come to join you!
....welcome to magic in salem, a weekend festival where you are finally exactly where you belong, and the world agrees.
MAY 8TH - 15TH
in the popular annual celebration of salem’s history, the whole city has been decorated and included in a festival centered around magic, fantasy, and witchcraft! vendors line main street, restaurants and bars offer witch-y specials, and memorials have been placed around the courthouse and city museum to remember history’s fallen witches.
it is also not unusual to catch salem tourists and residents dressed in theatrical costumes, tall black hats, pointy shoes, and carrying broomsticks. live music, street performances, and several other attractions have made salem into a blast from the past, and it will last all weekend long!
worried you won’t have enough to do as a witch during the witchcraft festival? fear not! there are many exciting treats in store for the grimoires girls to enjoy. an open-entry fashion show with a magical theme, several fortune teller and palm reading booths, and an earth-y scavenger hunt has been set up for everyone to enjoy.

Following the previous day's meeting, all the witches gather at a public park in the late afternoon of April 25th. The mood is considerably more somber than the previous engagement and there is a general feeling among the gathered witches of uncertainty. A handful of witches from the meeting before are not present, with the absence of Aida, Belen, Cole, Maia and Wynter, to whom select witches intend to inform of the meetings ongoings.
The meeting begins slowly, the focus turning to the rat among them. Harley questions if anyone has come forward; once more being accused by Carter, this time more factually, Ariadne revealed to the girls that she was indeed the one who spoke with the reporter- offering that anyone with questions should speak with her privately. While shocking to some and unsettling to others, the girls agreed to move on in favor of more pressing matters.
Moving along, Lucrezia asked the group to focus on the threat of witch hunters. Zelenia brought back the idea of assembling a task force - separating half the witches into researching the hunters while the others focus on honing their offensive magic. Marina added that they would also benefit if some witches were to research defensive spells and wards. Another tactic suggested by Clementine was to consult Genevieve on how she was able to identify down the fifteen witches with the hopes that they could then disguise their identities and make themselves less trackable.
As a late but greatly appreciated arrival, Mira revealed that she’s found a spell in her grimoire that would support Carter's suggestion of a seance, but with a catch. This spell must be used to contact a witch's ancestor. Asteria offered to learn how to travel further back in time to locate such a witch but was nervous to do so alone, at which point Marina offered to help.
Attention shifts to the witches involvement with Genevieve, with Harley noting the historian has only brought drama and distrust to their lives. Mira offers to spy on Genevieve through astral planes and it’s noted that Aida is already spying on the woman, somewhat. There is still discourse between the witches on feelings towards Genevieve, but it seems the overall consensus is proceed with caution and begin to rely more on each other.
Redirecting the group, Ronnie reminded the girls that they would do best to settled on how to defend themselves. Cleo then explains that there is a list of names located in her grimoire; most notably Alice Bancroft. It is decided that Mira, Carter and Ariadne will work towards a seance using Cleo’s list of names. Zelenia, Ronnie and Harley are suggested to look into living ancestors still in Salem and the witches agree overall to practice magic together.
As the meeting came to a close there is a re-establishment of trust. Everyone agrees to be open and truthful with one another and the pact is sealed with the traditional sharing of a fat ass blunt - thanks to Carter.
