though by nature quite a solitary women, even ari has come to see firsthand how the help of her fellow witches can greatly improve her own magic. for her, even the easiest of tasks are made almost instantly possible when she combines her forces with others. so far, she has discovered two spells that seem to work very well with the influence of others, and has been working on figuring out two more, and how to make them work.
{read about the task here!} @grimoiresgirlsrp
if you would like to plot out a thread/connection/plot where your witch can help ariadne in her magical abilities, let me know! as well, let me know if ari could be of use to your own spell development.
Spell #1 — Spectral Spirits
(needed: dark magic, powers of mediumship)
best for: @cole-campbell, @necromaancing, & lilith
in this spell, ari can combine her forces of light magic (her specialty) with dark magic to give sight into the spirit world. she uses a clarity spell along with her starlight magic, her natural ability to source light, and combines that with spells meant to reach through to the dead. when done correctly, spirits may become fully visible and tangible - though she may need a medium still to branch over the contact issue.
on her own, ari can only make vague shapes appear in a pale blue, dusty figures, and she can barely make out the facial features or communicate with the spirits. this spell with the dark magic forces can be used to get information, solve hauntings, and make new fun dead friends!
Spell #2 — Seeing Over The Rainbow
(needed: water magic, maybe more astral magic)
best for: water & astral witches
a special ability for sight can be given to ari when water magic is used to create rainbows. she uses her light magic, as well as the energy manipulation between the fractals of colors in the rainbow, to see far behind the possible scope of the human eye. it’s like a massive reflection, when ari literally ‘looks through the rainbow’, created by water magic... she can see anywhere in the world for a brief moment of time if she can picture it.
the only thing is she sees whatever she does see in bright rainbow colors, and without some steady water magic to hold the water steady, it may be a very blurry or watery image that can be hard to make out the details. more astral magic may help this.
Spell #3 — Psychometry
(needed: fire & electric magic)
best for: @aidaxaman, @lucrezia-venus, @sun-castilla, @belenvillas
ari has no idea she can do this yet. using energy manipulation and electrical currents, which can be created with fire magic combining with her astral magic, but is easiest done with electricity, ari can learn everything about an object, place, or person. if she holds the object, or touches a person, or puts her hands against a wall of a place - she can learn of it’s history, it’s memories, previous occurrences, owners, etc.
it drains her, so some healing magic may be helpful. ari’s abilities allows her to work as a conduit for the energy inside these things to absorb into her, where she can ultimately “read” them, and gain knowledge. the fire helps to spark electric energy. with all three, ari may be able to find out even more, especially from people - and potentially, tell the future. or at least, the future regarding whatever it is she is reading.
Spell #4 — Teleportation
(needed: source of healing magic, perhaps earth or water, as well as a form of strength, which could be any sort of enforcement to her magic)
best for: @thechircn & anyone honestly
as ari grows in her skills, she realizes that she can use astral projection to change her location. she has only managed to do this one time so far - but it hurt her quite a bit, so the need for a healing spell in tandem is required. it was genevieve who told ari to consider using healing magic with her own to stay safe during teleportation - and she believes she could go even further, faster, with more power behind the spell.
she would like to try the spell, with the healing enchantment, with other types of magic to see what could make her go the fastest and furthest. perhaps fire could give her distance, and electricity could give her speed?
erzulie or erzu for short is named for the family of Ioa spirits in Voodoo. erzulie’s namesake is for the goddesses meant to protect women, children and those who cannot protect themselves. it was a name given in honor, as the pantheon is one ren holds close to her own heart and spiritual beliefs.
appearance
while erzulie is a hybrid mutt of husky and wolf, it is easy to mistake the canine for a full blooded beast. erzu shares a coat similar to a gray wolf with fur that is thick and soft. however, she is not as lithe as a wolf with a more muscular stature and a wider snout. noticeably, ren does not collar erzulie in her spare time unless they are in public.
personality
despite a large and wild appearance, erzulie is a fantastically well mannered dog. clearly trained intensely, erzu responds instantly to both verbal and physical signals. that being said, the dogs temper is extremely tied to ren and her presence, seeing the hydro witch as her only other pack member.
connection
the bond between ren and erzulie began a year and some after her travelling began. she was an unwanted pup, breed misunderstood and too large for most households. seeking companionship on her wandering journey, ren took the pup and devoted her spare time to training and caring for the wolf. in turn, the two are extremely close, with erzulie holding more of ren’s trust then any other human.
with the witchcraft festival in full swing, the hunters are on the prowl - this is their best chance to identify the witches and create a game plan. however, when surrounded by average civilians pretending to be the very thing you are hunting for, how are you to discover your prey? you split up, and start to mingle... and find yourself in some interesting predicaments with some odd women along the way.
meanwhile, the grimoires girls are trying to enjoy their one weekend of freedom - genevieve has told them to forget they are different from the world, and just have fun. this may be your one chance to truly be yourself without fear.

“oh, my pleasure. i must say that as a journalist i’m more used to being on the side that asks the questions, so answering them does feel a bit unusual.”
do you currently believe that magic exists in the world?
“well.. i don’t not believe in it.” she shrugged, a small smile on her lips. “i definitely believe that something exists above, or outside of, the way humans interact with the world. spiritual energy is in everything, really. the ocean on a still night, the quiet hum in the deepest parts of a forest.” her mind drifts to her various travels, the small shifts in energy she’s felt that either pull her in or send her on her way quicker. “there hasn’t been enough proof i’ve encountered personally to be firmly on the side of yes, but isn’t is nice to think we could be part of something magical and special?”
the rest of the interview can be found under the cut. @grimoiresgirlsrp
have you experienced magic in your own life so far? if so, how has it happened?
marina purses her lips, tilting her head to the side in contemplation for a few seconds. “i think that depends very much on your definition of magic. i don’t think i’ve seen something that’s been explicitly outside the realm of normal physics, as much as science can be normal and expected.” she brushes it off with an easy laugh. “but i do think i have been lucky in more ways than one — being around the water almost always helps level out my moods, and storms always seem to come on or fade to nothing at the perfect moment. that’s either been a guardian angel helping me out or really, really strong coincidence.”
what does magic mean to you?
“in my limited personal experiences so far, i feel like magic must come from a strong understanding of who you are. it makes sense, right?” she looks to her interviewer, waiting for a sign of agreement, understanding, before she continues. “makes sense that you’d only be able to access such a strong internal power over the world once you’ve reconciled all the conflict and self-doubt within yourself? i think a belief in, and even more a willingness to use, magic has to signify a solid level of faith in yourself and the power you can exercise. like, if i didn’t think i had a good handle over something supernatural, i definitely wouldn’t want to risk anything by using it.”
she took a long pause, weighing the next statement heavily in her head. did she really need to say this? be so honest? would she look weak? ah, did it even matter? marina shook her head with a small smile twisting at her lips, running her hands through her hair. “i... honestly don’t know if i have that level of certainty in myself to use magic if i had it, if i’m being truthful. i think i am afraid that the magic will manifest all the fears and worries inside me.”
i’ve heard that you received an interesting mystery package — what was in it?
brows furrowing in confusion and concern — was she being watched? “i — how did you even hear about that? god. small towns are sometimes the worst — please don’t quote me on that. i’d prefer not to get run out of town by loyal long-time residents. i guess you’re not going to let me plead the fifth on this one?”
i’m afraid not — we’d really love to know a little more. anything at all you’d be willing to share?
she could see it in her mind already, run her finger over the soft, worn leather cover. “it’s a hand-bound book — seems like it’s a special personal belonging. the cover’s deep blue, with etchings of the sky and sea on the front and back. i’ll say this — i was originally terrified of opening the package. it was in an unlabeled, unstamped envelope, so i had no idea who it was from or for, even. but curiosity got the better of me, i guess.”
she’d opened the package, of course, then left the book sitting on her desk for a couple of days before flipping through some pages. the beautiful, cursive penmanship and careful sketches had captivated her, sending her mind into a spiral on the possibilities if she tried following the instructions on each carefully drawn page. most of them were just that, though — recipes with slightly vague names, and little-to-no reviews on their effects. it would be a tremendous leap of faith to try any one of them — and who would she even try them on? more research was definitely needed before she committed to actually doing anything.
do you know who could’ve sent it to you? where it’s from?
“i’ve honestly got no clue who owned this before it came to me. i don’t know who would’ve just left it for me either — i’ve tried asking around the town a little, and doing some research in the town library. not much has turned up, which might also be because her name — sorry, i just assumed it was written by a woman — hasn’t appeared anywhere i’ve looked so far.” shooting a conspiratorial smile at her interviewer, she continues, “i guess you’ll have to follow my upcoming articles to see if i’ve made any further discoveries.”
does your character currently believe that magic exists in the world?
Maia has always been a big believer in outside forces like destiny or kismet, she’s always been a little whimsical and that extended to a firm belief in magic as well. As a child she was a big reader of fairytales and Cinderella has always been her favorite, though a Fairy Godmother didn’t save Cinderella - she saved herself, Maia always liked the idea of someone or something looking out for her.
has your character experienced magic in their own life yet? if so, how has it happened?
She’s read the mysterious book that came in the mail, part of her not even daring to believe that it was meant for her. Maia read it cover to cover, while she’s found many things in there interesting - there’s a part of her that’s frozen in fear, that this is the power to change her life and she’s uncertain if she’s ready. So Maia has left the grimoire in her desk drawer, unable to stop her mind from wandering to it practically ten thousand times a day.
what subtle signs of their powers, if any, have manifested?
“She talks to the plants.” Her mother would often say with an irritated huff, as Maia would softly and tenderly talk about her day to them. If she had a friend, Maia would admit that she does not talk to the plants, she just listens. New York City felt like it choked her and she wanted to be outside, she was at her happiest in Central Park - barefoot with spare parts in her hands.
what does magic mean to your character, both currently and your prediction for the future?
Right now, it’s a mixed bag for Maia. She’s curious about magic, about what it might mean for her and then as with most things, she is afraid of it. She’s afraid that it all was an accident and it wasn’t meant for her and she’s afraid what she might be capable of if she uses it. It does give her a sense of hope though, that she was truly meant for great things and in the future, I know that Maia certainly hopes that magic will give her the family and belonging she’s always hoped for.
what is your character’s grimoire like?
A pale pink colored journal, the handwriting is neat compared to Maia’s exuberant scrawl. It’s fancifully decorated in a way that appeals to Maia, it has little bits of ribbon and pressed flowers stuck and little drawings in the margins. There are pages and pages of careful notes about spells, potions, various plants, bits about crystals, almost everything Maia would need to know has been covered. It’s a well loved recording by a witch and it’s been taken good care of.
what information have they managed to gather about the witch who owned it, if any? are they a mystery, or have you found clues to their life and identity within the pages of the book? feel free to go into as much or as little detail as you’d like!
Inside the front cover, there’s a carefully pasted in book-plate, stating that this book belongs to Laurel Morales. Other than that, there’s nothing really personalised about the Grimoire, whoever Laurel Morales was - she seemed to keep her cards close to her chest. Whoever she was, Laurel has left Maia with more questions than answers right now.
“Do you currently believe that magic exists in the world?”
“Define ‘magic.’“ Something twitched in Mara’s face. Perhaps it was a sore subject, or one that had been pondered for far too many sleepless nights. “Like Harry Potter, or something more sophisticated? Something corny, like ‘we all have a little magic inside of us?’ So, maybe. Magic could exist. I haven’t seen enough of the world to know for sure.”
Has your character experienced magic in their own life yet? if so, how has it happened?
Her mind flashed back to those moments in the pool, when a competitive spirit pulsed through her, when another girl was a few strokes ahead. Something would come over her, a white-hot, icy anger that pushed her through the water, as if the water itself was carrying her to victory. As if she was controlling every droplet of water in that pool. “I don’t know...sometimes I think I’ve experienced magic, but at other times...no, it can’t be. I worked hard, I won those swim matches without any sort of...supernatural aid, or whatever you wanna call it.”
What subtle signs of their powers, if any, have manifested?
Mara doesn’t acknowledge that they’re “powers,” so to speak, but when she was on the swim team in school, in her most desperate moments, she was able to control the water around her to bend to her will and increase her speed. Additionally, she feels rejuvenated and powerful around water, but she attributes that to her love of swimming rather than magic,
What does magic mean to your character, both currently and your prediction for the future?
Currently, Mara is skeptical to believe in magic. She is a skeptic by nature, and hesitates to believe in anything unless she has more information on it. In the future, I see Mara believing that everyone is capable of magic, but some are more in tune with it than others, just as some are born with natural talents and others must work for them.
What is your character’s grimoire like? what information have they managed to gather about the witch who owned it, if any? are they a mystery, or have you found clues to their life and identity within the pages of the book? feel free to go into as much or as little detail as you’d like!
It appears that the grimoire was constructed by tearing the pages out of an old book and sewing new pages into the binding with a careful hand. Earlier pages have been written in a different handwriting. It seems as if another person wrote the first pages and had the words dictated to them by another. Only one word is different. There is a name, “Suvanna” written in wobbly handwriting, clearly by an individual who was not familiar with penning her name.
As the grimoire continues, there is a shift in the handwriting. A new person appears to be writing halfway through, perhaps because the author has learned how to write, albeit not perfectly. There are countless spelling mistakes and some pages have so many corrections that the words are nearly illegible. But eventually, the writing grows clearer, the mistakes become fewer, and the writing takes on an experienced eloquence.
The final clue falls into place upon reading the inside back cover of the grimoire. The name is written again, this time in neat script. “Suvanna, a slave of Massachusetts Bay Colony, 1692. May God receive my innocent soul, soon to be departed from this Earth.”
does your character currently believe that magic exists in the world?
“Magic?” The brunette snorts over her cup of tea. “If you’re eluding to wizards in pointy hats waving about spindly wands then no, not at all. But...” her gaze wanders, distracted by a memory. The book teases her belief, the steadfast nature and her smile grows tense, as though she’s working through the logic. “Then again, people speak of God and miracles and are those not, in some way, very similar to magic. It all boils down to what we cannot see. I’d hate to be the fool saying something isn’t real when I have no real say in the matter. I have my superstitions but I...struggle to say the extraordinary of Disney films and storybooks is real.”
has your character experienced magic in their own life yet? if so, how has it happened?
Clearly, this question catches her off guard. Her surprise isn’t overt, but there’s a soft widening of her eyes, pupils widening slightly in apprehension. “I would hesitate to call it magic. We’re only human, after all, we can’t have answers to everything.” She laughs, softly, attempting to shake the ill humors from the moment. “My Nonna believed in these things. Should I believe every omen she’s warned of in my tea leaves?” But there is a bitter feeling on her tongue at the dismissal. Once more, her mind wanders to the book on her mantle at home. She hasn’t brought herself to open it since the night it arrived - has yet to utter a phrase actually - and while she knows the ideas must be pure nonsense, she finds herself unsettled ignoring the pages.
what subtle signs of their powers, if any, have manifested?
There hasn’t been a clear moment of power, not the way fortune tellers see premonitions in the stars or a mermaid breathing underwater. Nothing so strange has happened to her. She couldn’t even say if these next things happened, not really, but there have been instances where she’s felt...something to flame. Whether this is a pull of warmth from a fireplace across the room or candles that seem to dance unnaturally with her mood. Of course, these abnormalities are not how the world works and so she has placed the disturbance in an internal locked box.
what does magic mean to your character, both currently and your prediction for the future?
Currently, Lucrezia is very averse to the idea of magic. The inner workings and mechanics of the supernatural are entirely unknown to her - which is unnerving to her. That said, she is not a particularly “type-a” person. The answers need not be presented to her on a silver platter - it’s not as though she is a devout, god fearing woman. Her journey and relation to magic will be a slow acceptance, fighting to reconcile old Italian wives tales and mythos with the reality of what is happening. She will not be terribly hard to convince but her belief will flicker without balancing guidelines.
what is your character’s grimoire like?’
The book is just larger than an average textbook - the sort that fits poorly on every shelf- always sticking out among an ordinary crowd. The cover is a deep red umber, the inlays done in a queer stone like onyx that shifts like a dark rainbow in the light. When you reach for the spine you may expect it to crumble, the wooden set identical to tinder left ravaged after a fire but the book holds firm. The edges are strangely solid, smooth and it seems like a trick the longer you hold it. If you lay your palms on the tome you’ll notice a slight warmth, as if it’s laid in the sun too long. The inside is well worn, many page edges burnt, holes through certain spells and pages ripped. On inward inspection, it’s clear the book has been both well loved and hated.
what information have they managed to gather about the witch who owned it, if any? are they a mystery, or have you found clues to their life and identity within the pages of the book? feel free to go into as much or as little detail as you’d like!
Luce doesn’t have much of a sense of who owned the book before her. There is a weight to her book of shadows that extends beyond its size and she gets the sense it has belonged to many before her. The handwriting of spells changes as the book continues, ink stains different, and it seems as though whoever had this last toiled over the contents. The most concrete sign of the witch before Lucie is a warning on the first page; “𝓟𝓻𝓸𝓬𝓮𝓮𝓭 𝔀𝓲𝓽𝓱 𝓒𝓪𝓾𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷...”
does your character currently believe that magic exists in the world?
her opinion on magic is pretty neutral. she is mentally more inclined to science but; there has always been a part of Carter that longed to know the truth. that secretly hoped magic was real, and she often went looking for it when growing up. playing with Ouija Boards, buying tarot cards (she hid all this from her religious and superstitious family of course). but nothing ever completely confirmed or denied the existence of magic for her.
has your character experienced magic in their own life yet? if so, how has it happened?
she’s never experienced true magic before, until she moved to Salem.
what subtle signs of their powers, if any, have manifested?
since she moved to Salem three years ago, her nightmares of her parents death and her own death have increased in frequency and become much more vivid. within the last few months she’s been having really bad intrusive thoughts. Carter has also started sleepwalking two weeks ago, but so far she hasn’t woken up anywhere weird...yet.
what does magic mean to your character, both currently and your prediction for the future?
before it was a much longed for fairy tale, Carter always had an overactive imagination, and as a child she was drawn to both scifi and fantasy books and movies alike. she always imagined what a world with magic would be like; in the future I imagine Carter’s first reaction will be excitement and aw, she has powers now! just like little Carter always dreamed about, but I think once she starts to learn that her power comes with a grave price, that nothing in this world is free, she will start to despise her magic, and feel torn or conflicted.
what is your character’s grimoire like?
her grimoire is incredibly large and thick, made from white leather with black trim, and black stones set in the middle of the cover. Black tourmaline and onyx stones. it is bound and tied shut by two black leather strings, decorated with smooth obsidian beads on the tips. it contains writings in various different languages, english, and different runic writings she didn’t recognize, many papers are loose leaf, stuffed haphazardly and messily throughout it. There also is a series of pages and entries that seem to resemble diary entries, some words seemingly written in blood. On one page she found a strange pentagram drawing, with a bloody hand-print pressed over it, strange runes written in the margins of the page in a thin, flowy handwriting. It has a variety of spells, though the grimoire seems to be more journal than spellbook. Different handwritings litter different pages, and various different names can be found in the book. It is also littered with grotesque and detailed drawings of human bodies, ranging from images of skeletons dancing, to the human muscular system, to drawings of the human brain at every angle etc. It also features other strange drawings on almost every other page, with words written in the margins.
inspo photographs: here here here
what information have they managed to gather about the witch who owned it, if any?
there are different names all over the book, the first two pages are just a list of different names in different handwritings, after that some of those names can be found reoccuring in the grimoire. but other than that there's no clues, as most of the book is written in some strange runic language that looks like a strange mix of chinese characters and druid runes. The last name on the list reads “Isabella Price”.
