I don't know if anyone's ever considered this but: Coran having a romantic relationship with King Alfor while simultaneously being Allura's caretaker after her mother's death Coran and Alfor bonding over their mutual love for Allura Alfor and Coran's relationship being secret because there would be rumors about Coran using the king as a play for power Coran wanting desperately to stay with Alfor when Altea meets its end but going to the cyropod anyway because Allura will need him Coran not even able to properly grieve because their relationship was always secret anyway and Allura needs him too much for him to waste time grieving Coran's buoyant exterior being a coping mechanism for his lack of time to grieve Basically Coran suffering over the king's death and unable to seek solace of any kind because he's never told anyone before
