Granted Alcubierre warp is still theoretical, but NASA have measurably warped spacetime for like 20 seconds using it and while afaik the results still need to be verified it’s promising at the least, and we’re pretty much constantly rewriting what we know about science anyway, energy is a bit trickier but I don’t think it’s impossible either

I mean, if we can learn more about physics, some quantum physicists are saying that it’s possible we could rearrange exotic matter and turn a seemingly infinite source of energy needed to maintain the Alcubierre bubble for such a distance into only requiring about 700 kilos, but that’s way beyond our current scientific and engineering knowledge

given how “early” we are in the timeline of the universe (theres only a 4 billion year time difference from when the universe became habitable to now, and since it took 3.5 billion years for life to evolve to where we are now) I really don’t think theres aliens flying around, I think at this point Mankind is likely one of the very few intelligences to have made it this far and that we’ve gotten one hell of a head start for when we colonize the galaxy in 100,000-1,000,000 years from now

the Great Filter hypothesis makes us even more unique and special and helps solve the Fermi paradox (especially the “we’re alone/early to the party” hypothesis) , the evolution of life goes through around 9 stages of existential “filters”, we’re at #8 and approaching #9 fast, and we just so happen to be lucky enough that our primal ancestors weren’t wiped out by a gamma ray burst, or that we didn’t blow ourselves up during the discovery of nuclear fission. Really the only last existential hurdles we have to combat are global warming and artificial intelligence, which are entirely controllable.

personally I like to think that, as of now, we are mostly alone in the universe. It’s sure that other civilizations exist, but there are relatively few of them for now, and it’s unlikely for us and them to be in contact as of now because of distance and technological difference. We really are special, and significant, and extremely early to the party, and we’re going to end up as those giant blue man group fucks from Prometheus
