Hurgh sorry I am here whining and not posting art or something but boy howdy it annoys me sometimes when I peek beyond my very small fandom corner and see what people in more mainstream or larger fandoms are having discourse over, and they’re like “oh yeah sure ‘people make and read fanfic because they liked the source material and characters and wanted more of it’ nah dude why would we enjoy the soulless writing from the evil soulless corporation who made the media we’re engaging in fan content for?” and acting like there is no art that isn’t made by a massive corporation when like… no. It’s not that writing fanfiction for other reasons than because you enjoyed the source material or its characters as-written is bad, but please god some of these people need to broaden their horizons a little bit.
Read webcomics (preferably off of webtoon but I’ll take what I can get at this point)! Find a niche webseries somewhere! Like, for any medium of storytelling that exists, I promise you there are a ton of resources to find whatever the “indie” version of that is online, often for free or a low price. Honestly the fact that no one (not *no one*, but few enough that it becomes hard to discuss them irl without confusion) reads webcomics off of webtoon makes me so frustrated, as someone who loooves webcomics very very much. And like, yeah, I get that it’s partially because webtoon is convenient. All ya comics in one place and everything’s (more or less) easy to find, but like, other webcomics aren’t that hard to find if you just know where to look, and I’m sure it’s similar for other indie projects.
If I had more of a platform I think I would make some posts detailing resources for how to find webcomics as well as my personal recommendations, because I want more people to read webcomics. I understand I’m preaching to the choir here though, lol, given that most of my followers know me from my Aurora fanart, I’m just very passionate about this.
If— If anyone wanted my webcomics resources and recommendations, though, I’d be happy to share them…
