I'm a million years late but I just played Gris and it was GREAT
If I have a nickle for every Gris I knew, I'd have two nickles, which isn't alot, but's weird that it has happened twice.
I made this a long while ago. It was inspired by the game Gris. ❤️
GRIS (2018)
So after a heart attack moment last night when I couldn't find my Switch case, which had 10 games in it (about $300 in value), @lostindarkplaces found it for me this morning, and then I could play a game without further heart attacks.
I tried to play Octopath Traveler, but it's been almost a year since I beat the first five storylines and half the reason I put it down was because Hanith's final dungeon was too fucking hard and I'm saved somewhere near the end boss.
So instead I ended up playing one of the games I purchased as a digital download because it was on sale: Gris.
Y'all.
For obvious reasons (I have one), I love a Dead Mom Story. It's part of the reason I love Stephen Universe so much.
The titular Gris is a young woman for whom her voice and all color are gone from her world due to grief, and you have to go on a quest to get them back. It's a platformer, which I am notoriously bad at, but it's a puzzle platformer, and I'm actually pretty good at puzzles. As you go through, you unlock one color at a time, and the palette of the game becomes more complex as you go.
Without any further spoilers (I don't know how much more I can spoil, I'm only on Ch. 3), I want to say, I think this game is good. It reminds me of Journey, and to a lesser extent Flower, which is high praise. There are no fail states: you can't die, you just have to keep trying the puzzle or jump until you succeed. There is very little text and the sound design is fascinating. The character design and environment design are both pretty unique, and the ruins through which Gris travels are elegant and beautiful.
It's a Devolver title, so medium-indie, and it's on Steam as well. Give it a shot.

Spring has more than sprung, and the atmosphere feels just a little brighter. And I do say just a little, because I think all the random weather and storms have been giving me headaches. 😅 Still, there were lots of good things to enjoy this month.
Gris: Beautiful game. I finished it this month, and it deserved a second mention. 🌈❤️
Wicked: Late to the party once again, but I watched the Wicked movies this month. As expected, they were fantastic. The songs and performances were wonderful, of course, but a quieter second star to me was the set design. Watching this masterpiece had my mind dreaming of magical locations. ✨️
St. Denis Medical: My Mom got me into this show last season, and I quickly fell in love with this quirky Office-like comedy of awkward characters. And most especially, Matt and Serena. Is my ship sailing a bit sooner than expected, meaning there are sure to be some rough waters ahead for my favs? Probably. But I'll hold on to the railing and hope for the best! ⛵️
Cobra Kai: So, I'll admit, I've never actually seen the Karate Kid movies. But my gaming bestie has been telling me to watch this show for a couple of years now, and recently said, "It's the kind of show you like. Adults and teens making bad decisions." 😂 Then he accused me of only watching Degrassi. Well, I had to prove him wrong. And though it took a bit to grow on me, I'm enjoying this goofy little drama a lot.
Dispatch: The gaming bestie and I played through this game, and it was a pretty enjoyable superhero adventure. Granted, it might have been a little - okay, a lot - raunchier than I typically like. 😅 But the art was nice, the characters are fun, and the story is compelling. Also, the dog is cute.
YouTube Favs: How Gris Made You Cry with Its Colors (Daryl Talks Games), Riku in Skyrim (igobyGRAVEN), The Internet Archive is in Peril (Swell Entertainment), Best of the Worst (RedLetterMedia).
Music Favs: Lonely Life (Gatlin), Vulnerable (Selena Gomez), Sun Space (Late Night Alumni), loml (Taylor Swift), Aglow (Lemolo), Say [All I Need] (OneRepublic), The One (Foo Fighters).
