Ozacosta Avenue in Groddle Forest is home to many lovely flower varieties; some of these flowers are showy varietals created by careful breeding, while others are already showy in their natural forms. There are two flowers that are the focus of this post.

The first is the leftmost orange flower with the dandelion-like bit sticking out of the middle known as a sour-sap fangblossom. This is a lovely and interesting flower, but it is also carnivorous! It uses that fluffy yellow middle to attract prey, then snaps the meaty orange petals forward when it senses something touching the lure. The petals are sticky as well as spiny, and struggling just makes them stick harder.

The second is another carnivorous flower, the blue one just to the right of the fangblossom. This one has a similar mechanism to the fangblossom, only it has neurotoxins instead of spines. The neurotoxins cause no pain--they are mostly anesthetic in nature, and there are also chemicals present that can make its victims deaths quite pleasurable. This one's the bittersweet anemone, and many a foolish butterfly has died a joyful, rapturous death in its clutches.

Ferncaster End in Groddle Forest is a richly planted street that has given the author many wonderful photos to share.

In this one, we'd like to focus on the mushrooms growing out of the sides of the pines, both of which are a type of wood ear mushroom. On the left, we've got a Stoot's ear mushroom, a reddish variety. On the right, we've got Alph's ear, a creamy pale variety.

Again in Ferncaster End, Groddle Forest--this time, we're looking at a very familiar tree. Most Glitchen have climbed these trees to seek out quoins or other rewards. The trunks often have notches that form perfect ladders, and the incredibly strong branches can support as many Glitchen, chickens, or pigs as are willing to stand on one together. This is the ironbranch pine, and it not only supports the weight of climbers; it actually needs them!

Ironbranch pines need their branches trod upon frequently to keep them healthy, and to loosen the pollen from the tiny male flowers. To encourage this, many grow the ladder notches, and nearly all generate quoins.

Ironbranch pines can be found all over Groddle and Grumbla, tempting Glitchen with treasures, and providing a temporary break for chickens who get startled.  It is not recommended to release pigs onto the branches; the pines don't mind it, but the pigs will starve, as pine needles are not a nourishing diet for the pigs.

Ferncaster End in Groddle Forest is a fantastic place to view the many types of fungi found in Ur. The little ones scattered about with purple, blue, and brown caps and cream-colored bodies are bride's buttons, and they can be found throughout Groddle and Grumbla. While they are different colors, they are of the same species--and quite likely even part of the same organism. The mushroom you see above ground is only the fruiting body, releasing spores; the main part is underground, and can shoot up multiple fruiting bodies at once.

The color difference may be a way to mimic the colorful flowers of rainbow thyme in order to attract butterflies; the spores would stick to the butterflies, who would then carry them around until they are milked or massaged by a Glitch. The Glitch's grubby little fingers would eventually deposit the spores elsewhere when digging or planting.
