An Outer Banks Rant About JJ.
Will contain spoilers for season 4 ! You have been warned !
I literally hate what they did to JJ in season four so much. It feels like he didn’t learn anything and his character development just went down the drain. The best things about characters like JJ is growth and development. Yes, he was reckless and headstrong and he acted without thinking. But he also wasn’t a total idiot. He should have learned from his mistakes instead of repeating them over and over again. They did him dirty.
Where was the redemption arc? I don’t believe for a second that they planned to kill off JJ all along. He deserved better than the end he got. Out of all the characters who should have lived and had a happy ending, it should have been him. All he got was shit.
And the way he died? Bullshit. Bull fucking shit. They didn’t pick up one gun during that whole scene? Or a machete? It would have taken them two seconds to grab a weapon after they disposed of those men.
Not to mention them standing so close to Groff after he literally just threatened her life? Turning their backs to him to hug? Come on…
Groff killed JJ’s mom. Groff assaulted Kiara and locked her in a fridge. Groff tried to kill JJ. Groff threatened to slit JJ’s throat when he was in the well. Groff then threatened Kiara (again) and what did they do? They hugged and kept their backs to him. And they stood RIGHT NEXT TO HIM. Are you fucking kidding me?
If Rudy didn’t want to do the show anymore, fine. If the writers wanted to kill him off, fine. But do it in a decent way. This just felt rushed. It feels like lazy writing.
Season four just continued to piss me off the more I watched it. They trusted Groff too easily. I get that they’re “young and stupid” but did they learn nothing from Ward? Or any of the other adults who tried to screw them over??
There were scenes that I loved and liked of course. I’m not saying the whole season was trash. But there was still so much wrong with it.
They ruined JJ’s character. Period. He was my favourite character (still is). He deserved better. If they weren’t going to give him the ending he deserved or a redemption arc, etc then they should have at least killed him off in a better way.
This is all solely my opinion. If you have the same opinion as me. Cool. If you don’t, that’s cool too.
I could rant about this forever but I’ll end it here.
I miss JJ.
It’s not the same without him. Honestly, I don’t think it’ll be as good anymore. Without JJ it just feels wrong. And I don’t want to watch a show without him in it. As soon as the characters start leaving or dying, shows always go to shit.
