The sun was edging just below the horizon, leaving her garden lit by only the strategically placed lanterns decorating the floral paradise. Lailani loved her deadly flowers with about as much passion anyone could love an inanimate object. She judiciously snipped bits off her oleander before tucking a few blossoms to be used at a later point.
Mrs. McAffery would be picking up her medicine on Wednesday and Lailani oh so wanted to give her a little something special.
It was a long few minutes before she felt a prickle up her spine and the distinct sense of being watched. She brushed it off, though -- there was a wall around her estate, and no one was around; her parents were gone off to lord knows where and the staff were all inside, or in bed. She continued for a few more moments before it struck her again. Something was off, someone was there.
With a cautious look around she pulled off her gloves and held the shears loosely in her hands. "Is there anyone there?" She felt silly, talking into the night like this, but she couldn't just ignore it. "It's rather useless to hide, you may as well just come out."
If she didn't get a response she'd go back inside, finish with her flowers in the morning.
