Returning Awards.
I am confused ...
.. when someone like Shahrukh Khan - who chose to be the Brand Ambassador of Mamata Banerjee Government (she had a student arrested for asking her question in a TV session, a professor arrested for forwarding a cartoon on Whatsapp) talks about growing intolerance in our society
.. when someone like Ghulam Nabi Khayal returns his Sahitya Akademi Award to protest against growing intolerance. He got this award in 1975 when Indira Gandhi was the PM and did not see it fit to return it during emergency, which - to lesser mortals like me - was the ultimate act of intolerance in our country.
.. when Kundan Shah returns his "Indira Gandhi" Award for Best First Film of a Director. Thats like returning an Adolf Hitler Sportsman of the Year Award to protest against Angela Markel. If he valued freedom and tolerance so much, shouldn't he have declined an award named after Indira Gandhi? Or at least returned it as a protest against killing of Sikhs post Indira Gandhi's assassination?
.. when everyone seems to be blaming the Modi government for Dadri lynching. Isn't law and order a state subject? Shouldn't Akhilesh Kumar government have prevented such things from happening?
Since all the "smart and conscientious people" are returning stuff, here is a small list of things Id like to get rid of too (and preferably get a refund) 1. Tickets forRa.One (Shahrukh, while you are @ it, please return it's censor board certificate too - such movies should seriously NOT be tolerated) and Happy New Year 2. Tickets for P se PM tak (Kundan Shah) 3. Outlook magazine that features Arundhati Roy's long story romanticising Naxalism in India and bashing Indian forces
