He’s on his way home after the worst day he’s had since the bats. First, he woke up half an hour late and had to rush to work, forced to skip breakfast. Then, one of the cars he was fixing had a much bigger issue than originally thought so he had to skip lunch to get it done. And right when he was getting ready to clock out, three cars came in that all needed oil changes and guess who had to stay to get them done? Yup, Eddie. He got paid overtime sure, but it meant he’d miss out on Wednesday dinner with Steve and Wayne. By the time he left, it was nearly 8pm.
Eddie scoffed as he kicked the tire to his beloved van. The old girl broke down nearly three miles from the trailer and over a mile to the nearest phone. He grumbled and started walking back the way he came. The sky opened and the rain poured down, which, wasn’t a surprise to Eddie with the way the day was going.
He sprinted the last few blocks, only to find the gas station closed. “Mother fucker!” He screamed before he slumped onto the sidewalk. He sulked in the rain until the flash of headlights appeared. Steve rolled down his window a concerned look on his face. Eddie pouted at his boyfriend looking like a wet cat. Steve sighed and got out of his car and squat down in front of him. “What happened, love?” Eddie held it together up until this point, but Steve’s soft voice broke him.
“Murphy’s law” he whispered as the tears ran down his face.
“Let’s get you home, huh?” Steve asked as he helped Eddie up and into the car, not at all concerned about the seat.
At the trailer, he showered to warm up while Steve heated up the leftovers. Eddie, bundled up in Steve’s sweats, ate the pasta glumly.
“Sorry I missed dinner, baby.” He sighed. Steve smiled softly.
“I’m just glad you’re okay. You didn’t come home and I drove past your van…” he trailed off. Eddie gasped.
“I’m sorry baby. I didn’t mean to” he was interrupted by a long but chaste kiss.
“No apologies. Just cuddles.” As the two climbed into bed and into each other’s arms, Eddie thought he could endure any bad day as long as he had Steve to hold.
