On this day in 1993, “Rooster” was released.
The powerful single from Dirt, Alice In Chains’ sophomore album, was written by guitarist Jerry Cantrell for his father — nicknamed “Rooster” during his service in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
Blending haunting harmonies with grinding riffs, the track climbed to No. 7 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and became one of the band’s defining songs.
