I tease, but sure. Here's a good one.

I believe that the decades Ford spent in the multiverse permanently warped his capacity for normal human empathy. Therefore, he never truly integrated back into the healthy family dynamic usually portrayed in canon GF media. I actually like to think that because of the immense trauma he went through, a big part of how he presents himself is almost an act. I think he can never truly let himself fully love his family, or anything else, for that matter ever again.

What's the point, right? At any moment, they can be stripped away from him. It's better to hide in the deep, dark depths of a hell you have learned to find comfort in than to step out of that zone and make the terrifying journey to an unfamiliar heaven.

On the surface, he forces out a fake laugh when the dinner table is rowdy and full of energy, but inside, he feels nothing. Something happened to his brain when he was out there, something completely irreversible. He lost more than his sanity. The constant rush of adrenaline from being chased by aliens, combined with Bill tormenting his nightmares, completely destroyed any chance of him feeling normal again. He goes about the rest of his life constantly on autopilot. He often has to excuse himself from social situations to go stare at the wall for hours because he can't find it in himself to mask contentment anymore.

Any time he finds himself feeling any amount of dopamine, he recognizes it immediately and genuinely asks himself why he thinks he deserves to feel happy. He wonders what the point of allowing himself to feel any sort of peace even is.

Stanford Pines is truly a tragic character if you really think about who he is and what he's been through. I want to say that I wish I could be in his mind for a day to see what he feels, but... I honestly don't. The sheer willpower of that man to find it in himself to roll out of bed (or away from his desk) every day is genuinely admirable. I think that's why I love him so much. It's inspiring to see a character who has virtually gone through hell and back continue to push on and try to enjoy life as much as he can, despite the fact that the things he's gone through would have killed a normal person. It's just a shame that all of this had to happen to the "King of Guilt and Regret™."
