prince of darkness ? i always thought of myself as more of an archduke.
born and raised the only child of antonia and tyler cardoso, he was born griffin, but at some point in middle school began self-styling as gryffin. gryffin is more of a rockstar name anyway, and that was the big plan at the time. honestly, it’s still the big plan because he hasn’t put much thought into any other possibilities.
fan of and true believer of the weird and strange aka ghosts, demons, and aliens. he’s up to date on most theories about 3/5/67 and even has that styling of the infamous date tattooed on the inside of his left elbow. he also knows far more about adam falwell than seems necessary, along with a few theories about the cult of his own. runs a social media page called miriam’s weird.
all of that interest was created by comic books and thrift store paperbacks, so gryffin is pretty open minded about what’s possible. he used to save up for both, especially after his father lost his job as a truck driver for one of the warehouses out in zone 4.
around the same time gryffin changed his name, he started his first band. there hasn’t been a two week period since when he hasn’t been in a band. most of them didn’t last too long, some had the same rotating cast of characters, and none of them were exceptionally good. better over the years, yes, but it’s very much a local band, not anything that’ll be selling out arenas anytime soon.
gryffin is oblivious to this. he’s certain whatever he’s working on is the absolute coolest shit possible.
doesn’t respect authority ( hell yeah !!! punk rock !!! ) but has extreme respect for the shadow in the corner he’s convinced is a demon. “don’t talk shit about aliens, bro, they’ll get you.” “demons are pretty chill once you get to know them, and ghosts are just trying to live their life ... or whatever.” paradoxically, super casual about it. hangs out in saphire buddy’s occult shop even though he doesn’t know what he’s doing. keeps a tarot deck in his guitar case and thinks the crystals are pretty.
wears a lot of black but will not admit that he’s dying when the georgian summer is in full swing.
looking for:
band mates !! current and former. does everyone share gryffin’s optomism or maybe he’s got a more realisitic counterpart? if they’re not in the band anymore, was it just creative differences or did some shit go down?
exes ( romantic and platonic ) !! between comic books and epic rock songs, somewhere along the way gryffin started seeing the world as a collection of stories, which makes him both a great and shitty friend / partner. he likes grand gestures, but also big fights; dramatic exits and even more dramatic returns. to be clear he’s not trying to start shit, but he often acts without thinking and if it goes wrong at least he can write a song about it.
occult scene members !! did your grandfather get abducted by aliens? were you or a loved one impacted by a cult? you probably have a few thoughts about miriam’s weird and the kid who runs it. or maybe you also frequent sphère céleste and took pity on the kid and are explaining how to actually use that tarot deck he’s been lugging around.
unlikely friends !! gryffin is a pretty friendly kid, and -- despite his carefully crafted rockstar persona -- is kind of a nerd. give him friends from the comic shop, from the library, all the places he finds himself when he isn’t working or working on his music.
childhood friends !! kids from the block, those who grew up in little georgia and are just doing their best. biking around the neighborhood became driving nowhere with the radio on once they were sixteen, became finding parties and maybe even driving to the city to see concerts. people who have been there since the beginning.
tattoo artist !! i imagine gryffin has been going to the same artist since he started getting tattoos, or at least recently, and i would love it to be someone who has similar interests as him -- they talk about the weird and strange or maybe comic books while they put another piece of art on him.
followers & fans !! miriam’s weird isn’t crazy popular, but it has a sort of cult following with a specific group of people. likewise, if you’re into the diy music scene, maybe his band is one you’re into!
coworkers !! up in the air, but like it’s probably a bar. just some folks trying to survive late stage capitalism together. is gryffin a fun level of chaos to have around or are you about two more conversations about the barney and betty hill abduction from putting him through a wall? honestly those are both valid feelings.
