if you looked up every cowboy and redneck/hillbilly meme and/or stereotype and you mashed them together to try and make a shape you would have rusty

no he doesn't have a last name because he needs a family /: more on that later

whose to say where it all went wrong for rusty, or if this was truly just the way it was always meant to be. it's entirely possible he got kicked in the head by a horse or cow too many times as a kid, because it certainly happened at *least* twice.

born and raised in miriam's well, spent most of his life on the back of a horse which led to him being a proficient rodeo kween until he fucked it up, broke too many bones and lost too much money and any dignity he pretended to have. came back to town embarrassed and hell and found out his gf had been cheating on him for a long time. when it rains it pours as they say

literally lived that new girl moment where he got arrested for cock fighting as a person in mexico and duke bailed him out

the other half of the dairy queen mafia, someone drove their bike into a dq sign while he was just "minding his business" trying to get a blizzard thru the drive-thru on his horse, which is apparently not allowed????? in this economy?? honestly this "law" or w/e should really be brought up to the mayor but you won't catch rusty doing it because authority and authority figures make him nervous //: was he drunk? well yes but that's besides the point, a man just wants his ice cream

he wasn't even supposed to be there the night the factory burned down but he somehow ended up there and now everything's sort of coming back up and rusty is truly just :| but he is *not* a snitch so you won't catch him fessing up and actively avoiding the cops in the meantime

does ride his horse or atv just about anywhere, installed a car alarm on both (don't ask)

he's always been a bit of a walking disaster tbh, not detrimentally-irresponsible but yikes dude. a lovable mess who is currently very cynical and whiny mood and will most certainly complain about something but his heart is very full of love!!!

WANTED –

1. a family - no seriously, rusty isn't fit to be the main character of the family and would serve much better in a supporting role, so consider this a reverse sort of request for any families - most likely permanent/long-time miriam's well residents - where he could fit in! he most likely did not fit the mold his parents/family wanted for their son so if anyone would like a true dipshit cousin or even a brother who embarrasses them at every turn please let a girl know

2. he works as a farmhand so the farm owner who just really loves charity cases and has decided to employee him. surprisingly rusty is handy? who would've thought honestly but he'll mend a fence or milk a cow without batting an eye. is he late sometimes? yes. annoying? yes, but what he lacks in punctuality he makes up for in gusto and his strange ability to calm any animal that's in front of him.

3. his ex-girlfriend of a significant amount of time (think high school "sweethearts") who left him for his best friend after cheating on him with said friend for a long time without rusty having any idea. tbh, rusty was a bad boyfriend so he's not 100% free of sin in this situation but he's not a cheater!!! bonus points if she's named natalie because he wrote a zinger of a slam poem in his rage

4. said ex-best friend who was his ride or die and now, since he cannot ride....he must die...no but i would love to explore rusty, king of stunted emotions, to try and go through the process of dealing with some Ultimate betrayal.

5. someone, let's call it a friend, who will take rusty places he needs to get to when he a) gets in a fight with boondock, his horse (they're going through a rough patch rn, no he doesn't want to talk about it) or his atv is out of gas.

6. you know it's been a rough few years for rusty, and even though he thinks love his dead and physical affection in public (or anywhere, tbh) is WRONG, maybe someone to love him proper. or hell, someone to make him temporarily forget his woes.

○ his name is grady. no one calls him garrison, not anymore. not since his mother was around. i say around, and not alive, because she isn't dead. just missing. a town native who moved away when she was pregnant with him, but brought a lot of the darker parts of miriam's well with her. he was raised on unfinished stories and embellished half truths about the place his mother grew up in─the place he eventually called home at fourteen─and, ultimately, is probably responsible for his interest in all things unexplained. and his father, well... his father is around georgia, somewhere, he supposes. they haven't spoken for a while. believe it of not, a relationship with your son doesn't cure at the bottom of a bottle.

○ his life pretty much always baseline sucks and his attitude and demeanor mirrors that. which is fine since grads is the type of guy who makes more acquaintances than he does friends. and even more enemies than that. he will casually put his nose in your business because "that’s my job" and he makes no apologies for who he is.

○ when he was younger he wanted to be a journalist, a photographer, and novelist and you can tell. too curious for his own good and heavily believes in not only checking his sources, but questioning everything. he's not afraid to stand up for the things he believes in or for the people he finds deserving of it, and has very little issue or care to what what consequences these actions might breed. he also may or may not be a coffee addict.

the corner booth at the local diner; twilight zone background noise; the smell of coffee seeping from moist skin; sweeping honesty; not only is the truth out there, but it also probably sucks; ring around the rosie was about the black plague; anti-social social club; dry sarcasm over milkshakes; swear jar that has his name on it; the company misery loves; mean nerd aesthetic; late nights in the studio with great music and a constant opinion.

plot hooks.

○ his family. well, his mother's family. the people she left behind, whatever's left of them. possibly an aunt (preferably his mother's twin, who he had no idea existed, so imagine that shock) who took him in when she went missing at fourteen and any potential children she might have? because cousin relationships are great and no one has your back or will kick your ass quite like family. can't imagine them being well off, more like town trash and maybe this aunt was the best of them. ○ veronica mars needs clients. ACAB indeed, but sometimes people need solutions to problems that a corrupted small-town government isn't capable (or willing) to get them. what does that mean? for the low price of [insert negotiation here] this knox boy will go out of his way to find the answers you need. husband fucking the secretary? photos will hold up nicely in divorce court─not to mention i'm a ~fantastic photographer. you get the idea. sure, it's not the prettiest (or cleanest) job, but it's easier to make money off liars, thieves, and cheating spouses than you might realize. especially in a small town with such an ugly history. ○ the unlucky barista/cashier/counter girl. it'd be nice to have a little back-and-forth relationship with someone who might work for his aunt? i imagined [his aunt] owns a coffee shop or cafe (or something of the sort) and he's always in there helping himself to free coffee and snacks and likes to poke and prod this person when he's bored via asking a million intrusive questions or just being his curious, obnoxious self. taken by noor ♡ ○ co-hosts of the night shift. well, it's not the doomsday podcast, certainly not with their following, but like a lot of people who find their way to miriam's well, they share the same basic general interest (unsolved mysteries, serial killers/true crime, paranormal/ghost hunting, lore, extraterrestrial, etc.) except, grady also likes to use his platform to bitch and moan about other things that happen in town. some topics more pointed than others, and often about public officials he has no business putting on the air and his fellow casters probably hate him doing. no one likes a target on their back. ○ pizza buddy + longtime friend. someone (preferably someone he considers close/from when he first moved to mw) who will go with him to flying saucers at two am for "out of stock" garlic knots (and/or an employee he bribes with🍃for said knots 👀) because he's an actual human garbage disposal and he hates himself just enough to like the aesthetic and that entire plot sounds fucking awesome?? bonus points if they both used to work there when they were younger, and now this shit is habit/a bastard tradition at this point. ○ doomsday descendants. characters who are part of the families who have abduction histories that he can interview and broadcast on his podcast─also pick their brain about every little detail and absolutely get on their nerves in some way or another.

was homecoming princess her sophomore year of high school and (unsuccessfully) led a campaign to make her friends call her princess for the rest of time. OTT to say the least, but in a fun .. sexy .. sort of way ..

likes being a big fish in a small pond, not the other way around. she's loud, and quite dramatic, and likes being known etc etc. Small town famous, probably would've been the subject of a pop punk diss track if she were of age in 2006. 

stage 5 fuckin' clinger! needs to feel needed, but gets weird when people try to cling to her, so it really doesn't make sense. she gets attached to everyone so easily: talk to her at a party for four minutes? you're her new best friend. once she drunkenly convinced herself that a fire hydrant she was sitting on a curb next to was her newest friend and cried when her friends told her she couldn't take it home. 

doesn't have regrets because honestly she probably forgets her bad decisions 2 seconds later bc she's distracted by smth shiny! hopeless romantic, literally would fall in love a wall if it told her she was pretty ok .. the bar is so low !!! 

lit never has any idea what she's talking about. a fuckin' ditz but she's cute and always well-intentioned so like.. whatever she can get away with it.

name: morg about: 30 years young from canadaland, est time and she/her. currently raising three littles ( two of which are twins and just arrived recently so be patient with me if i’m slow af somedays). i love pretty much everything though i’m a little bit out of the loop on tv shows atm.   things you love to write: i love family plots, tight friend group plots, found family, dislike to love, best friends with secret feels, a little of the forbidden romance trope, honestly... all things, it’s hard to choose.  things you’d love to experiment with re: writing: i’d like to dabble a little more in rf threads and work on that skill of not always writing novel like posts. finding new writing friends is always super fun too and trying out new plot ideas. i’m fairly open to just about everything.  what would you want to see on the site: just so excited about the gothic vibe and excited to write with some lovely peoples and be a part of a nice little tight knit community.  something you’ve been very into that you recommend: definitely feeling the fear street movies atm and re-watching older tv shows because that’s my life... so many new things to watch and i’m here watching brooklyn 99 and community.
