There's been some drifloon hanging out around my ranch. They're really cute but I'm not sure how to gain their trust. They seem really shy whenever I come around. You got any advice for befriending those cute little round critters?
Hmm, that’s a good question, actually.
While Drifloon are rather fond of children, they do tend to be more wary about adults, at least, until they evolve. While they can be a tad dangerous for children who weren’t taught how to interact with them, as Drifloon enjoy taking kids for rides around, they are perfectly safe to interact with if you’re large enough for them to not pick you up, or simply don’t hold onto them.
In theory, you could simply sit in the grass and hang out, if you don’t mind waiting a while. The Drifloon should eventually adjust to knowing you’re there, and may in fact become curious about you once they know you’re not trying to chase them down. They’re a bit fragile, if that’s even the correct word for it, and don’t much enjoy people roughhousing with them. This is part of why they prefer children, who generally don’t have the strength to really injure them, and run away if kids do get too rough with them.
If you don’t mind them hanging around and possibly flocking to you, you could also try feeding them. They tend to enjoy most Pokemon food, as long as its small enough! Their mouths, while small and generally invisible, do exist, and if you’re lucky you may even get to watch them eat; they don’t usually eat around humans in the wild, and some even refuse to if their Trainer is watching. But, food can be a great way to make them realise you’re trying to befriend them.
You could perhaps also offer them music. Softer music tends to be soothing for them, in my experience, though they don’t seem too picky when it comes to genre, as long as its soft and a bit slower. There are some songs specifically made for different Pokemon, and I personally have had quite a bit of success with This Song! It’s a bit more fun, and can put them into a playful mood! If you’re looking to keep them a tad calmer, however, This Song might be a better choice.
I do hope you manage to befriend them, however! Drifloon are fantastically comforting Pokemon, in my experience, and I always enjoyed watching them float about when I could.
