786. Cheap Girls - Find Me a Drink Home - Modern power-chord punk, Menzingers style. It’s pretty good, some nicer riffs in it.

787. Seether - Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces - About what you’d expect.

788. GRYSCL - Finding Comfort in Obsolescence - Pretty sure this is the BWM release because it’s an absolute banger. Emo/screamo well blended.

789. I Kill Giants - Finestkinds - Another winner from IKG.

790. Finger Eleven - s/t - I was surprised at how heavy this got at times, totally different from the ballad/single “One Thing”.

791. Senses Fail - The Fire - “The Fire” is pretty stereotypical Senses Fail, I’ve never really been into them.

792. Jimi Hendrix - The Fire Disc 1 - “Fire” is a classic. Duh.

793. Cousin Brian - First - Got into this band because I was supposed to see them at Dong Island (RIP). Those of you who have known me for more than a year know how that visit ended. Luckily, most of you don’t. Anyways, this jams, surf-punk with a comfortable self-awareness.

794. Storm the Bastille - First 7″ - Harder screamo.

GRYSCL // FINDING COMFORT IN OBSOLESCENCE EP

Emo? Screamo? Math-rock? Non so cosa diavolo sia e non riesco a venirci fuori. La Broken World Media ha sempre avuto un talento per scegliere artisti provenienti da diversi generi di tutta la scena DIY: i GRYSCL sono una band post-hardcore del Tennessee, che ha da poco prodotto un nuovo EP, "Finding Comfort in Obsolescence", lavoro che lega riff potenti ad un ciclo continuo di grooves, probabilmente per rendere il nome della band più credibile.  L'opener "The Sandbox", presenta riff di chitarra orecchiabili e moderni con una distorsione sufficiente per dare allo strumentale un potente segnale di sostegno, anche se in tutta onestà non è ancora abbastanza fragrante per diffondersi nel territorio hardcore. Solo nel veloce ritmo di "The Follower", i riff iniziano a brillare attraverso le spesse onde mathcore distorte venate da un tamburo in progressione.

Ci sono punti in cui le voci sembrano essere un po' deludenti, ma i brani strumentali in continuo cambiamento mantengono l'ascoltatore interessato.  "The Worker" ad esempio offre una bella collezione di arpeggi di chitarra con una buona aggiunta di clean vocals armonizzati prima di dirigersi verso la parte strumentale.

"The Sermon" presenta uno spoken word sopra strati di riverbero e delay di chitarre passando improvvisamente al brano "The Clock", in cui tutte le aspettative dei brani precedenti si concretizzano colpendo l'ascoltatore con assoli di chitarra (in una canzone screamo?!).

I GRYSCL trattengono sicuramente l'attenzione dell'ascoltatore. Certo che, più che su un EP di sei canzoni, avrebbero potuto puntare anche su altri brani al fine di aggiudicarsi un solido full-length da aggiungere alla libreria post-hardcore/screamo.
