Who is G. Scatterlight?
Who Am I?
Am I a mysterious internet guru? A secret celebrity? A blogger plotting global frame? Honestly, no. Not even close, I’m just G. Scatterlight, hiding behind a pen name and trying to create a warm corner of the internet. No one knows who I am, and I would prefer it to stay that way for now.
I want this blog to feel warm and welcome — not just to those who have the condition but also for others to communicate, ask questions and most importantly, learn.
Where does the name come from?
I wanted my name to be everything that is me whilst remaining anonymous. Let me break it down: (G).(Scatter)(light).
G is the GSD part of me.
Scatter is the way my brain functions 24/7.
Light is the part of me that wants to bring hope, peace and some guidance in this chaotic world.
Although I wish for my true identity to remain unknown for now, I am happy to answer simple and basic questions. I’m happy for people to get to know me — just not my name.
The background information
GSD:
GSD stands for Glycogen Storage Disease, and is a metabolic disorder/medical condition that affects how the body stores and uses (surprise) glycogen. There are many different types; around 16 variants with subcategories [1].
I have 1a — the most common type and least severe out of them all (I do consider myself lucky). For GSD1a, there are roughly around 300 people diagnosed in the UK and every year that number is going up. GSD cannot be ‘caught’ from someone, it is a hereditary condition and I just want to bring awareness of how this can affect a person mentally and physically.
ADHD:
ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and is categorised as a mental health condition. It’s a neurodevelopmental disorder, basically affecting how the brain functions [2].
There are 3 different types I have predominantly inattentive, however I do show signs of combined. There are roughly around 2.5 million people that have ADHD [3]. ADHD cannot be ‘caught’ from someone and is thought to be influenced by genetics as well as environmental factors. It’s only something recently I found out about myself, and after a very long time I feel like I can be me. I want the same as above for ADHD: to bring awareness of how it can affect a person mentally and physically.
TLDR
My name is a mix of my medical conditions and who I am as a person on the inside and out. I have GSD1a and ADHD (inattentive, with some combination), and I want to explore this with people, share stories and experiences and to create a warm and welcoming environment.
Thank you for taking your time to check out my blog and page, I aim to post at least once a month. I welcome any feedback, notes and discussion. I hope you have a lovely day and week.
Please note: I have a medium page, all of the content here, will be on there and vice versa. The content will more than likely be posted on medium first
