Huashan 1914 Creative Park and Korean BBQ

Heute bin ich nach meinem Unterricht mit paar Freunden zum shoppen nach Zhongxiao Xinsheng 忠孝新生 gefahren. Dort befindet sich das Elektronik Einkaufzentrum Guang Hua Digital Plaza 光華商場 und der Creative Park  華山1914文化創意產業園區, die wir an dem Tag auch besucht haben. Guang Hua hat eine riesen große Auswahl an elektronische Geräte und viele Zubehörs für das Handy.

Wir sind dann später zum Creative Park gelaufen und haben uns dort etwas umgeschaut und Bilder gemacht. Es ist echt ein cooler Ort um sich die Zeit zu vertreiben und sich zu entspannen. Wir saßen dort auch sehr lange und haben gequatscht bis wir los mussten.

Wir haben uns abends noch mit andere Freunde aus meiner Klasse zum Korean BBQ verabredet. Das Restaurant heißt Oppa&BAr und befindet sich in der Nähe von Zhongxiao Dunhua 忠孝敦化 . Dort arbeitet nämlich ein Mitbewohner meiner Freundin.

Das Essen war sehr lecker und wir durften unser Fleisch selber grillen ^^

Ich habe leider nicht viele Bilder gemacht, nur eins gegen Ende, da ich eher mit essen beschäftigt war XD

Den Abend haben wir mit Billard spielen beendet. Wir sind nach dem Essen ein Stockwerk runter gegangen und da befand sich ein kleiner Billard Tisch. Es war lustiger Tag und ein lecker und cooler Abends =)

Taipei Day Two (1): Taipei 101/ Guang Hua Digital Plaza/ Huashan Creative Park

We Wandered and Got Lost

Day 2 was quite impromptu.

We started out heading towards Taipei 101, and along the way stopped by at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. We weren’t much of history buffs, so we spent less than fifteen minutes there (oops). We then attempted to find one of Jay Chou’s cafes (D is a fanboy!). I think we were looking for the one located at Guangfu South Road, only to realise that it had closed long ago. 

Undeterred, we proceeded on to Taipei 101, not only because it was a mandatory tourist spot, but also because we were pinning for some air-conditioning. (On hindsight, Taipei didn’t seem to have a lot of shopping malls).

Lunch Was Served

By this time, it was past noon and we haven’t had anything to eat, not even breakfast. When we saw Din Tai Fung, it became a very viable option, despite the swarm of people gathered outside. The waiting time was a friggin’ sixty minutes. D needed some convincing that it was worthwhile to eat something we already had in Singapore. We went ahead to get a queue number anyway.

But at this point, we haven’t even had breakfast despite walking around for hours. We took ten minutes to weigh our pros and cons of waiting so long for some xiao long baos (henceforth known as xlbs). In the end, we gave up and went to the food court instead. We decided to eat at a hot pot place, which was pretty satisfying. I had most of D’s veges and mushrooms since he didn’t eat them lolol. Suuuper worth it for me. Costs NT268 per person.

And then, it hit us that we could actually finish eating the hot pot AND then go back to see if our queue number still held up. We ate at our usual leisurely pace and then headed back to Din Tai Fung – yessi! Still about three tables away!

We went in, slurped up some delish xlbs and checked Din Tai Fung off our Taipei To-Do List. Yes the pork tasted more tender, and the soup more tasty – but 90% probably credited to psychological influence. Anyhows, we enjoyed it. And we were glad we made it in time without wasting too much time.

Geeky Day

After that, we headed to Guang Hua Digital Plaza, which is like the Sim Lim Square equivalent. But much bigger. Beside a 5/6/7 (can’t remember) storey high plaza, there were also streets of smaller stalls selling accessories and electronics. We walked for hours, till our legs turned to jelly. We mostly got accessories, as most of the electronics stuff were actually more expensive than in Singapore.

Got quite a good deal out of a new camera case for my Lumix GM1, at a bargained price of NT350!! And it’s the first time I’ve seen a third-party case made specifically for the GM1, since it’s sorta new. Service was sublime too – the guy, even after being aggressively bargained with, was nice enough to fit the case on for me, and even voluntarily cleaned my lens!!!

Fan Faire

One thing I love about wandering about a new country is that you’ll never know what you’ll stumble upon. We were just walking about randomly, crossing the road away from Guang Hua, when we came across a Maker Faire. It apparently was one of the biggest international fairs and comes to Taipei only one weekend in the entire year. Whuuut! How lucky were we!

The fair itself was held in Huashan Creative Park, which housed several exhibition halls. We were only intrigued to enter because we saw some nude photography exhibition billboard at its entrance.

Inside, there were some pretty hipster performances (nothing screams hipster like an accordion), stalls and cafés dotting the area. Lots of design and illustrations too. We also chanced upon the cutest dog and the coolest wedding venue.
