Gugino
Calculated Inhumanity
Recently, a 75 year old man was shoved to the ground by two police officers. The man was bleeding from the head and is still in the hospital. Video of the incident has gone viral and outrage has spread across the country, fanning the flames of protest.
President Trump’s reaction to this video was to show no empathy at all or admit any wrong doing.
Trump picked up this alternative theory from an Alt-Right website. Even though the video clearly shows the police using far more force than can be justified on a 75 year old man, Trump refuses to attempts to justify the harm by pointing an accusation at the man, Gugino.
This depth of indifference toward someone’s well being is something I’ve seen and heard many many times. It is shown whenever an issue of police brutality, military brutality, racial violence, and historical wrongs are brought to a conservatives attention. Because conservatives have so strongly related their identity to being in support of “America” (their version), police, and military to see any of these situations objectively is personally damaging to them and to their political philosophy.
This is why we have police brutality in the first place, because police rarely criticize themselves or hold each other accountable. The people that support them cannot allow any falter. There is deep psychological denial in the minds of many Americans, and denial is far more powerful than most people understand.
Although, there is another type of person, which I suspect fits Trump more accurately. The type of person who is not only is denial, but also truly does not care what happens to the “other side”. They will quite consciously cover up or make excuses for wrong doing out of cruelty instead of rationalization.
