Are you trusting God fully or only during the nice and straight paths along life’s journey? Although our feet do the walking, we almost never step on or into anything without first using our eyes to determine if the path looks clear. If there aren't too many potholes and pit stops, we may decide proceed with caution.
I recently had foot surgery and am now hobbling around the house in heavy bandages and a very sturdy boot. There is a pin from surgery sticking out of my second toe that is most definitely tender to the touch, so I don’t want to bump or rub my defenseless toe on anything. It’s amazing how dependent we are on trusting in what we can see. Never before did I take such special care looking around so that I don’t step or slide into something. Before my injury, however, I never demanded a "pre-clearance"... I just walked.
Wouldn't it be nice if we would walk uninjured in the spirit realm instead of shuffling in and out of perceived obstacles to prevent injuries? How often has He told us to go ahead with a decision... perhaps a friendship, or a new job opportunity, and we instead detour because we can't see the end result?
One of the greatest challenges on the Christian journey is to walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). This world is so sight-oriented that it’s easy to see how a faith-guided life is so challenging. I can hear it now: but what looks right often feels right. It may be hard to walk by faith and God’s guidance, but’s what’s even harder is living defeated because we coast blindly into detours and dead ends, when the Holy Spirit would lead us to stop, slow down, or at least warn us about sharp turns.
When challenging and painful things happen to us, we often ask God why. Why is this happening to me? Why is my path so unclear? In a crash control response (which only makes things worse by the way), we try to shield ourselves from bumps and bruises. But what’s interesting is that Jesus’ responses throughout the Bible never catered to our groaning. He never meets us in our misery. As the ultimate cool dude, He responds to our pain with, “I Am.” I am the way, truth and light. I am the bread of life. I am the good Sheppard.
Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls. Matthew 11:29 (AMP)
Trust God’s path for you and live the happy life you were created to live. Stop going off of what looks right and start walking where the Holy Spirit guides. Can’t guarantee you’ll never get a stubbed toe, but in the end you’ll be fulfilled. Believe that you can hear from God. God talks to you. God loves you. God is for you. Let God lead your path.... one step at a time.
