jean should resent him. after all, isn't that what this is about? in a just world, enterprising young officers would shelter under the wings of their competent, sane mentors, gleaning novel insights from a mass of chaos, sieved through those tenured feathers to make it all bearable. but that isn't their reality. jean-heron deserves something he'll never get; what he gets is harrier du bois, staring up at him petulantly from a half-downed bottle of pilsner.
