She is the kind of natural performer who chats to the crowd during the intro to her song like it’s no big deal and then bursts into song at the exact perfect moment. Her voice had everyone kind of gaping and drooling, and thinking, “Does she have a CD player hidden in her jumper”? Her vocal control alone was worth witnessing but then you got to listen to her lyrics too which were always surprising and witty and current and timeless at the same time ... Not just because it was Valentine’s Day, but because they often perform together, Cal invited her fella, Myles Manley, on stage for a song. It was a joyous end to one of the most engaging and affecting gigs I’ve been to for a while now.
