Gun Control: Concealed Carrying, Armed & Accountable
Hello everyone! The purpose of this blog is to discuss concealed carrying policies in the United States. I highlight issues within the perception and act of carrying concealed and I advocate for a preexisting policy with the exception of refining it more towards acknowledging the responsibility of owning a firearm.
This blog post is meant for anyone! Especially gun owners, gun safety advocates, and lawmakers! This is meant to inform others about some issues related to concealed carry but also how we can effectively ensure better protection towards the public and personal rights.
The core issue of carrying concealed falls upon the intent of those who conceal, not necessarily the ownership of firearms. Concealed carrying concerns individual rights and public safety, it has led to various regulations and restrictions throughout the United States.
So, we should implement "shall-issue" laws across the country with the consideration of its issues and how we can refine them to be effective in the purpose of responsible gun ownership.
Shall-issue laws are laws that require a state to issue a concealed carry permit to an applicant who meets certain criteria. However the issue within these policies are it currently holds inconsistency for standards across several states. Certain states hold different standards for issuing permits which can lead to conflicting policies on how concealed carry laws should be enforced.
A Better Policy: A Solution Hidden in Shall Issue Laws
There is no all-curing existing law or policy that will ever prevent all actions of people with ill intent, as the law is reactionary. However, there's ways to acknowledge that the responsibility of those who exercise their right to conceal carry are also able to ensure responsible gun ownership.
Here's the refinement of the preexisting policy: "Shall-Issue Laws"
Coordination between federal, state, and local agencies to identify those with disqualifying records trying to obtain a firearm.
Requiring stronger background checks, mental health history or record of instability
Training; firearm safety, situational awareness, and legal knowledge effectively.
The solution, or in addition to one that exists, a refined shall issue law offers a structure and approach to upholding the Second Amendment and the responsibility of carrying a concealed weapon across various spaces that maintain gun ownership without infringement on constitutional rights.
It's important to note that concealed carrying is one of many issues under gun control, and that the law itself is not a prevention from individuals who use the rights they have for ill-will. No law or policy can ever erase that.
Take care, let me know if your feelings differ or agree!
