saw the original of this in pangaea's mix for mary anne hobbs (nov '11) and when i googled it, the first place i found to stream was at MTV - wut? no hating on mtv though, they had quite a nice writeup on the gun selectah collab between toy selectah & mexicans with guns, which i've included below. the above remix was on the gun selectah EP, released on friends of friends.

Gun Selectah, the collaboration between Mexican cumbia producer Toy Selectah and Mexicans With Guns, the altar ego of San Antonio-based DJ/producer Ernest Gonzales, aren’t dropping metaphors with their latest single “Popping Wheelies.” “The idea of this song was to make it sound like you were riding a motorcycle,” Gonzales tells Hive. “Toy created the percussion and drum loops and when I got them, I chopped them up a bit to sound off-kilter.”
“Popping Wheelies” is the latest track to emerge from the burgeoning tribal guarachero sound. The genre, originally native to Mexico but gradually making its way stateside, fuses traditional Mexican folk instrumentation with tribal house. Over a skittering, arrhythmic drum beat, the track morphs from ominous, squelchy synths to upbeat organs and additional Mexican percussion. It’s a sound simultaneously rooted in the past and forward-thinking.
For “Wheelies,” busy schedules forced the two producers to work via the Internet, but Gonzales says it was a strict collaborative effort. “We both had a few tracks lying around that were sketches and we exchanged parts, added, edited, and then sent back to each other,” says the producer. “We’d listen to them, critique and then go back to the songs.” If this is the result of Internet collabs, we’re starting to rethink the importance of face time.
